I think there was a thread about this a while back, but I think it should be brought up again. I play in a bunch of charity events and holiday/anniversary/etc... tournaments. At a few of them, the pot all went to the players and also the house added a bit. Local weekly tournaments also. There is one coming up this Sat again which made think of this, a fund-rasier in NH for a worker at the pool hall that has cancer.
The tournament directors at those events spend all day there, did not play, just ran brackets and set rules. If I cash, I never feel right unless I leave a larger than normal tip for the bar/restaurant staff and toss a $10 or a $20 to the tournament guy. But I don't see that happen at lot if at all in my area.
Is this something any of you do? For example a bit ago my son won an anniversary party at a pool hall near me, and I won one of the second chance tournaments. The guy running it was there all day and before we left I told my son to leave a $20 for him (he won over $300), I don't think anyone else did that, it just felt right to do something for someone that spent a bunch of time running an event for you. I usually leave like a 30% tip at a place if I cash and the house did not take any $ out. I think I try to compensate for the cheap-o's that also play LOL
If any of you play in these types of events where there is no greens fee or tour fee, give a bit extra to the hall staff or leave a tip for the guy running the event. Oh, and also don't expect any money back for a charity event, you get a trophy and get to play to raise money, not for winning something. I hear too many times people asking how much is the prize or that they won't play if there is no money prize.
