Tipping a tournament organizer, not for a tour

I think there was a thread about this a while back, but I think it should be brought up again. I play in a bunch of charity events and holiday/anniversary/etc... tournaments. At a few of them, the pot all went to the players and also the house added a bit. Local weekly tournaments also. There is one coming up this Sat again which made think of this, a fund-rasier in NH for a worker at the pool hall that has cancer.

The tournament directors at those events spend all day there, did not play, just ran brackets and set rules. If I cash, I never feel right unless I leave a larger than normal tip for the bar/restaurant staff and toss a $10 or a $20 to the tournament guy. But I don't see that happen at lot if at all in my area.

Is this something any of you do? For example a bit ago my son won an anniversary party at a pool hall near me, and I won one of the second chance tournaments. The guy running it was there all day and before we left I told my son to leave a $20 for him (he won over $300), I don't think anyone else did that, it just felt right to do something for someone that spent a bunch of time running an event for you. I usually leave like a 30% tip at a place if I cash and the house did not take any $ out. I think I try to compensate for the cheap-o's that also play LOL

If any of you play in these types of events where there is no greens fee or tour fee, give a bit extra to the hall staff or leave a tip for the guy running the event. Oh, and also don't expect any money back for a charity event, you get a trophy and get to play to raise money, not for winning something. I hear too many times people asking how much is the prize or that they won't play if there is no money prize.

Yeah I always do that.

How about this: Usually the tournament director makes an announcement at the beginning of the tournament to go over rules etc. Maybe ask to take the mic for a second and encourage people to leave a few bucks for a tip. I'm sure not everyone would do it, but if half the players gave a five, it might be about minimum wage pay.

I think I get annoyed more by players that make a sour face when a charity event does not have a cash payout LOL Or when there is too much competition in one past some friendly banter. I actually threw a final match one year because my son and I were playing a girl and her sister, I think they were around 13-16 at the time. Still the one of the best feelings I got at a final and I dumped to lose it LOL I still get a smile thinking about them getting the 1st palce trophy and the applause.

I'm about to plop $60 on entry fees and probably another $60 on food and drinks for me and my son along with a 2 hr round trip drive to play in a charity event for a trophy. Boy will Pretty Boy Floyd be mad at me :thumbup::D LOL.

If anyone of you don't get that reference, do a YouTube video search :D

Oh, for anyone in the NE area that can get to NH, https://www.facebook.com/events/108928722944248/?active_tab=discussion

I can remember a local tournament that had a prize of 1k and was a fundraiser (for heart disease? Cancer?).

Our very own pookster shot all players thru the liver to win and donated his prize to the charity.

That was a classy move.

I won a little tournament a couple weeks ago and gave the small winnings to the bar staff. Musta learned it from th pook.

Allen Hopkins did the same thing for the fund raising event for black boars wife when she got sick!

Just wanted to praise Mr. Hopkins as well!

It was many years ago! When boar just started. Money tied up! She got sick! Then remission kicked in! Boar was almost ruined! Thank the god for small miracles.

But, yes
