Bloomington/Normal IL

Couple bars with bar tables. They do gave an ISU center that is open to the public with bowling, billiards, and other games. I used to travel down to B/N with a buddy to visit his son at ISU but have never been to the center so I cant say what thats like. Just come about an hour and forty five north east and you can play on my table in NW Indiana..

Ride the nine is pretty dead, they dropped the hourly rates and have 7 ft diamonds at a buck a game, still a nice enough room but costly. the college has a nice billiards room with hourly rates also. DM me later, I'm heading to a tournament now 35miles south of Bloomington in Clinton Illinois

5weeks? We have the acs state tourney the week of 18th 2hrs north, the 25th a no masters tournament in quad cities about 3hrs west, or a carom room tourney about 3hrs north the same day. Also a couple of killer weekly Friday night tourneys, the best one is in Joliet 11/2 hrs north on i55 which is ran by 7time national champ Jeff sergent

Sarah Rousey is from there and may be there. Even if she's not she would know the pool scene inside out in that area. Might be worth trying to reach her on Facebook, like most pro's they don't hang out at AZ much... just a thought.

Thanks for all the info. I grew up just north of Notre Dame, so I'm a little familiar with the area, plus I've worked in Joliet, Quad Cities and Clinton IL, which is where I'll be working for the 5 weeks.

I lived in LaPorte from '53-'65. Went to ISU for 10 years in a row ('95-'05), doing a week-long clinic there. I ran student tournaments that routinely had 200-300 students playing in them, and had round robin finals with 20+ guys and 8+ girls. Also ran faculty tournaments with 40-50 players. The BBC is a great gameroom with 20 9' GC tables...and a 20 lane bowling alley on the other side. Ride The 9 has 2 9' Diamonds, and the rest 7' Diamonds.

Ride the Nine now has 4 9 ft diamonds and 9 7 ft diamonds, they have a Monday night 9 ball I think on the 7 fters and Wednesday night Bank on the 9 ft. They also have a lunch special buy lunch m-f get free pool from 11 to 2 when you buy lunch. Saturdays sandwiches are 1/2 price and Sunday they have all you can eat fish. I think the 9 ft tables you can play for 10 per hour our by the game.

How long has the ride the 9 been there? Last time I was in town 5/6 years ago I dont remember any poolrooms .

When I moved to the area in 1990 it was well established lol, It was a super nice place with a huge following with strong players but in the last couple of years a rude and lazy staff drove some players away and just this year charging a buck a game pushed the better players away. They are renting the 9fters hourly at 10$ double the cost from 6months ago. Most of the locals are driving to Clinton (breakers) they have 9 7ft diamonds, 1 7ft valley, 1 9ft diamond, 1 9ft gold crown all 5$ per hr per table or 50cents a game. Klatt and Sarah have played on the Monday tourney but it's pretty much dead between the players boycotting and klatt killing the field lol, ride the nine is still the best place to play if your looking for table time, the ISU college billiard center is nice and cheap but the kids playin lately are not that strong. The best place to get action currently would be Racks on the rocks in Peoria (formally known as Daves good times) which you will probably run into Bobby McGrapth jr almost any weekend.

The acs Illinois state is wed-sun this next week at pheasant run resort ST. Charles about 21/2 hrs north of Bloomington. Breakers bar&grill in Clinton (1/2hr south of Bloomington) just had a strong race to 5 8ball tourney today and are thinking of planning a bigger 9ball one soon, but on Friday nights they host a weekly hurricane 8ball (10$) tourney (4stripes 4solids played like 8ball) Rack on the rocks in Peoria host several tournaments but I primarily go north of Bloomington towards Joliet. The first closest tourney heading north on I55 would be the Stumble Inn in godley, the place looks a little rough on the outside but they cater to pool players with 6 7ft diamonds playing a loosely based apa tourney starting at 8pm on Friday with races to 5 and 2 on losers for 11$ with money added, they usually get about 30guys with a few national champs. Going into Joliet they have the best weekly Friday night tourney at Longshots bar & grill. Here it's not about the money! It's a crazy hard $5 entry!!! Apa rules with even races to 3 on winners 2 on losers but you will hit probably the hardest group of guys south of Chicago. National champs like Jim engles, Jeff sergent, Mike bandy, Ike runnels to name a few play often! In fact it's ran by Jeff, they average around 50 guys year round! Played on 9 7ft diamonds, This one is not about the cash, and all about pride. The next bigger tourney would be on the 25th at sharkys in davenport (Jessie bowman's place) which is having a no masters 8ball, and the Carom room in Beloit Wisconsin is also having a no masters 8ball the 25th. Most of the better Illinois guys will go to Beloit because of the crazy amounts the calcuttas bring. Of course Chicago and the suburbs have tourneys but I'm sticking with where most Bloomington/normal players would be. Ride the nine, breakers, and Nana's in dearcreek host misc APA sanctioned tourneys if you're into that. I hope this helped, lol

Thanks for the info. I think I'll try out the tournament in Joliet and have already been thinking about the one at The Carom Room.
