There were a lot of good ones down through the years, so I thought I would quiz you on a few. I will put up a name and you tell me the nickname.

First name - Luther Lassiter

Steve Booth has a list of a few hundred pool player nicknames on OnePocket.org: http://www.onepocket.org/Nicknames.htm.

It looks like that list may not be up to date. Maybe we can get him to update it if some nicknames are given in this thread that are not on Steve's list.

No study aids allowed you detention hall recidivists....

Gary Nolan AKA....

Bushwacker. Saw him play in his Ok. days.

Winner!

I'll buy you a burger next time you are in the Tampa area.

Female players

Noticeably absent from the listings are female players.
I always liked "Bankroll", when speaking of Robin Bell Dodson.

A lot of the WPBA names were contrived.....copy-catting the original process....
...so I tend to just call them by their given names.

In the 80s, in our area, we had a lot of gin and backgammon action at our pool hall.
...one of our guys was passed the cube at backgammon and beavered it...that means
you re-double but retain possession of the cube....he got backgammoned for some
pretty fair money...you pay triple for a backgammon.

...he's been called Beaver Wong ever since.....
...now THAT is an earned name.

It's those guys that flew under the radar that are hard to find.

I remember being on the road in the '80s era, going South. There was a gambler on every road agent's TripTik in Georgia named Rocky Creek. He bet it high as the Georgia Pine. :D

Then there was a guy Keith McCready played named Tangle Eye. I'm not sure, but I think he was from Tennessee or Mississippi. I think his real name was Rayford something or another.

Back In the 80's in Chicago we had a good shooter called "Rocket Man". Not sure if the name was given for his speed or for the fuel he was using.

I'm having a hard time finding someone who's not on Steve's list. He's got it pretty well covered.

Here's a few:

John "Mr. Smooth" Morra

Tony "The Silent Assassin" Robles

John "Mr. 400" Schmidt

Justin "The Iceberg" Bergman

Ruslan "The Siberian Express" Chinakov

Dennis "Robocop" Orcollo
