Dress Code for Gold Crown Billiards, Erie, PA

Yea a backwards cap is definitely a tell sign. That person will likely murder you.

If someone over the age of 20 wears a baseball cap, he's likely bald. I'm not sure if tthat makes him more or less likely to murder you, though I guess it can't be good for his mood in general.

Future Prediction

If someone over the age of 20 wears a baseball cap, he's likely bald.

40 years ago I said that future generations would cut off all their hair to piss The Establishment off.

Longs Hairs are fewer and fewer.

What is the big deal?

If my wife and I want to go have drinks at the Boom Boom Room in NYC we have to dress to a certain standard. Dinner at Spiaggia in Chicago, same deal. I want to play in the US Open in Vegas, same again.

If a promoter wants a certain "look," set a certain standard for the clientele, and you want in, dress the part or go find something else to do.

Lol I think pros should look respectable and clean but to be uncomfortable in dress shoes & a long sleeve shirt tucked in is overboard IMO. I'll say it again you can be in dress code & still look sloppy. Something like golf or would be fine.

And its really stupid to judge anyone but if I had to pick which person I would trust more a person with a suit on or a guy with a backwards hat I'd probably wouldn't trust either lol but I guess I would pick a backwards hat. I don't even know why I'm commenting people are going to believe what they want to believe anyway.

How you dress, your personal hygiene, and your general comportment matter to serious people.

You oft hear folks lament the absence of "real money" in pool.

At least in part, that's because "real money" does not want to invest in a bunch of guys dressed in baseball caps (hey, newsflash: you're playing an indoor sport), t-shirt, shorts, and flip-flops (the pool player uniform) yelling, "You got the 8, nit -- get your weak nuts up here."

Just a thought.

Eventually, you'd think the odds of being wrong every time would be impossible. Well Lou, you're proving the world wrong by yet again being so incredibly wrong. lol every attempt that's been made to clean this game up has pushed it further from success.

It's nice to hear a professional's perspective on this. It's so crazy they make people wear dress shoes to play a sport. DRESS SHOES! Who thought that was a good idea and why? They're uncomfortable. You're playing a sport that requires a great deal of walking in a day and dress shoes are not made for walking. The ones that are look terrible. Not to mention, it's so out of place. It would be like wearing flip flops to a wedding or a tuxedo to the beach. You're not going to the office, you're going to compete in a sport against others.

At least golf is figuring it out. The players are more comfortable and able to have personality. Nike changed golf for the better. It's become a less stuffy game because they got involved and changed the way people dress. They created a brand that made golf cool and kids wanted to be in it, not only for the money but because it was cool. Pool will never catch up...

I see from their online reviews that they allow smoking. Smoking cigs seems like a much larger character flaw than a backwards cap, jogging pants, basketball shorts or work clothes. Seems like a nice spot but too uptight for me.

Women

I have been going to Gold Crown quite frequently in the last year and enjoy it every time. It is a fantastic room and I feel very fortunate to have such a nice establishment relatively close by.

I have read through this thread and respect everyone's views.

One thing I have not seen mentioned at all is the fact that maybe the dress code has an effect on the number of women that feel comfortable walking through the door?

I have never seen so many beautiful women of all ages and walks of life in a pool room. Gold Crown has them all.

Where I live you'll see the same thing. We have a huge number of women players here, some of which are absolutely gorgeous. All of them feel safe and welcome in all of the pool rooms. None of which have dress codes like this...

You should visit NYC. You'll feel very welcome in all area pool rooms.

I have had a dress code for 32 years and have had to update it periodically to address the latest offensive or disrespectful fad. This year it was pajama bottoms.

I get the rest but not the bottom three on the right. When I had my pool room I would give them a choice of leaving or turning their offensive t shirts inside out.

give me the people with their hats on backwards over the ones with their heads on backwards, any day.

dinosaurs roam the earth.

Talk about missing the point.

Hey! Basketball players make a lot of dough -- why not dress pool players in tank tops and shorts? Maybe we should put them in baseball uniforms? MMA is doing well, though I can't think of many pool players I'd want to be see dressed ready to go into the Octagon. IOWs, golf and poker, and a lot of other sports and games have little to do with pool.

Let's see. What pool event is the one most pros aspire to be a part of? Which pool event draws the most rabid fans, selling out the venue? Which pool event actually gets on TV?

Can you say Mosconi Cup?

And guess what? That event has a dress code that appears to include: neat personal grooming, dress shoes, and slacks. (I'll spot you the goofy team jersey.)

Any other cue sports out there that we could compare pool to? Oh yeah, something called snooker: neat appearance, dress shirt, bowtie, vest, slacks, and dress shoes. Those guys make a few quid.

Even the billiard players know better but, alas, leave it to you to let the salient point go whizzing between your ears.

Lol I don't want to see anyone the Men's tour dressed up like an MMA fighter either lol. I don't think that's the reason for no money in pool though. The reason why Mosconi is successful is because it's a country vs continent, it's prestigious, live tv, etc. it's promoted how it should be they do a good job. Derby City you wouldn't know if the finals were even going on & there is a dress code there. i don't want to sound like I'm saying this just because I'm a pro but there needs to be a good Men's tour for pool to have a chance. Any other sport would die without it. The NBA, PGA, MLB, all those games would kill the game if they weren't on tv and the players didn't make millions. People would still play obviously but I always here people say screw the pros they don't care about league players & I think that's wrong IMO

I didn't miss the point at all.

Different sports have different attire, based on what the athlete is required to do. Saying "basketball is successful, we should play pool in tank tops" is a very pool promoter thing to do. That's not what I'm saying at all... I'm saying the attire in poker, golf etc has not limited their success. Poker is very successful, they dress like your average person in a pool room, they're obviously gambling... why aren't sponsors running as fast as they can from it? Oh yea.. because sponsors don't care. Seriously people in pool have missed the mark over and over and over again on how to appeal to the masses but those people are so far out of touch they don't get it.

Cool, snooker is successful overseas. How's it doing here? Exactly.

It's almost as if I work in television/marketing and know a thing or two... hmmm....

I always knew Rory Mcilroy was a THUG lol
Not being real sure which golfer that is -- maybe the guy with the Bud can on the green, I was thinking -- I looked him up. Here he is during a workout. I hope he gets the clubs for free. Do not try this with your Revo.

CropperCapture[6].jpg

It looks like he is dressed OK to play pool in Erie.
