Totally agree.
But..... why can't we have all that and some style?
Again, something along the lines of a Centennial or Anniversary for my tastes.
No proplem, just design it so it can be moved into the casino, or convention center, flipped down on it's legs, and leveled in a few minutes...oh yeah, and make it coin operated while you're at it.
I don't think anyone here is questioning the durability or function of the Pro-Am's, just the outward looks.
Right, but that's the problem when you build a coin op pool table....it comes with a box design.
I forgot to say that the Diamond Pro-Am does look much better than a Valley.

I may in fact end up with a Diamond if I'm unable to locate a suitable older GC. If I do it will be a Professional though, and not a Pro-Am. But I don't see how anyone could think that new GC5 isn't a thing of great beauty, regardless of where it's made. If I were willing to drop that much cash I'd buy a new one in a flash.

I'm guessing almost all of it. One reason I'll never buy a Brunswick again. Not because they are not built in America, but because they were, but moved.
Let's admit the truth: commercial pool tables are not good looking in general. This is coming from a pool addict (my last home, a pool table was my first piece of furniture I bought, even before my own bed). But I can't believe people who say they are "beautiful." Women can be beautiful, cars can be beautiful, watches can be beautiful, cues can be beautiful, but GC or diamond pool tables?? I think the only commercial billiards tables that come close to beautiful are snooker tables

That's a valid point.
But regardless of the origin of individual parts, aren't they still assembled and finished here? Otherwise I couldn't see any distinction between the Brunswick line and the Contender line. If it's a matter of slate and hardware, then I get it. But if the entire table is built overseas and shipped here for distribution then that's a different story. I'd love to know the complete truth of the matter.
I'm reminded of the time I looked into exactly how much of my all-American Chevy truck was sourced overseas. It's the way of the world I'm afraid.

I have no idea how you could think a Diamond plays better than a GC5........wait a minute yes I do know.....I finally figured it out this weekend....when Glen did a customer of mine that I made a set of Anniversary rails for his table.
I'll leave it at that....read between the lines and your right...lol
I had a lot of my design in the GC5... best frame on on any GC ever.....45 corner pockets......got rid of the ugly balll box.
First time the GC offered 4-1/2" pro pockets.
The GC 5 is heads above the Diamond table.....in ever aspect of a pool table.

And i don't care about beauty, only tbat the table is clean looking, bit i do care about functionality, the table has to play right....in my eyes!

Mark, as I've told you repeatedly in the past, i don't make any difference how well you can build a set of rails, when you hand off your work to be finished off by the local talented pool table mechanic, replying on that person to do your work right....as you found out in this case. Pool tables are only as good as who ever worked on them last, don't matter who built the table. Any pool table can be ran into the ground by who ever is doing the work on them, i for one don't have much faith in the pool mechanics in this industry today, as you already know. But as you're also aware, some AZB members would love to argue that there's 100's of mechanics that do just as good of work that you or i do....only they can't seem to remember anyone's names....LOL
This is a GC1 i rebuilt a few years back and never showed on AZB, at least i don't think i did anyway.

This is one of the few times I agree with Glen......and he proved that to me this past weekend.
The anniversary rails I sent back 9 months ago to the guy that started this thread.....complained about how my rails played and banked.
Finally Glen went to his house and completely redone the table from top to botom and the whole time Glen was telling me....Mark I promise there's nothing wrong with your rails....the mechanics are so bad around the country...all they do is destroy tables..lol
He's so on track...they're the worst.....and I'm learning that when people tell me I can't afford to have you finish and cove the rails.....but what your rail work...and I have a guy that can do all the rest........boy do they not understand how another guy can take ones work and all but ruin somthing great.
Glen has pics of what the guy did to my brand new set of anniversary rails....tons of staples everywhere.....made me want to throw up looking at what the hack did to new rails.
I'm finding out fast just how much bullshit is out here....everyone can do anything for the money...and they know shit.
The only work out there I trust other than mine..... is Glens.....and for the record Glen has nothing to do with what I know about tables.....HE HAS NEVER TRAINED ME TO WORK ON TABLES EVER......I do my own thing....everyone thinks he has shown me everything I know...WRONG......I DO MY OWN WORK ON RAILS AND TABLES PERIOD.
TRUST ME IF I MAKE A SET OF RAILS FOR A TABLE AND GLEN BUILDS THE REST OF THE TABLE.......YOU WON'T FIND A BETTER PLAYING TABLE.....PERIOD.
Sure there's guys out there telling customers they were shown by Glen And do as good of work on rails as we do.....but their just hustling work for the weekend...they don't.
I always just paid attention to what I was doing and never others work.....wow what a surprise I just got......the guys that think some of the mechanics on AZ are so great....are by far some of the worst I've ever seen. Glen has finally woke me up to that this week.
I could go on forever......but for what....people are still going to believe what they believe.
This is a sad industry for the truth.....but great for a lot of bullshit stories.

Everybody's work on a pool table is judged by people looming at the table fully assembled, they never see what's under the surface, then tell me there's 100's of guy's that are just as good as i am, but never show their work...LOL Sad thing is this guy passed himself off as a pool table mechanic and got paid for doing a job he had no business doing....but hey, he got the money....LOL
