Ivory jointed all original Gus Szamboti, ? Would you refinish?

Yep lots of nice original cars were restored in the 80s and 90s. Today some of those cars would be worth twice as much. If they were left unrestored. Besides once it's restored the condition will only go down hill. Now if you use it and ding it. You just added patina.

Wow Scott, your cue is an exact match to mine except for the ivory window, sweet looking cue. I hope you still have it.

I had an old Joss

No biggie except it was unchalked and origional 58 inch with the big pin Ivory joint and the little tiny ebony proings into a perfect yellow black yellow black veneers.
I had Tim refinish it because it had a very thin almost rubbed finish and I played with it.
It had the origional french leather tip and was virgin and this was maybe 8 years ago.
Should have just put it up. It was the origional 40 year old virgin.
Collectors love origional. Barry will do that Cue proud.

I was referring to the link of his cue that he posted, on the 3rd page i think, you will see an ivory window that someone added to the cue, unless I read it wrong

Yeah, it had an ivory window that someone had manually removed and Barry installed a new ivory window and refinished it.
 
here's my 2 cents worth....I am by no means an expert....If it was my cue, I would never sell it, and I would refinish it. If I was planning on selling it, I would never refinish it.

I would only let one person refinish the cue, Barry Szamboti. Personaly, I think you should just leave it alone in it's original condition. If you sell the cue, the original finish will appeal to a larger crowd.

Thanks to everyone for your opinions, interest and help. I am in the process of sending the cue to Barry and I have decided not to have it refinished unless Barry recommends having it done.

Don't do it.....keep it as is.
Right now you know what you have and the cue looks good.
Until it comes back, you don't know what you'd wind up with.
Don't ever send this cue in the mail, or by any common carrier.

If you deal with a cue-maker, hand delivery only and both ways.
Every time you surrender this cue, there is a risk something could happen.
A cue is only original once; when you start messing with it, that ends forever.
Enjoy what you have right now & pay less attention to what it could become.

No, I had had no idea. What do you think? I bumped it because someone on AZ was thinking of buying it and he he needed the some quick pictures. Thanks for stating the obvious though.
 
Imo your cue needs no "restoration" BUT if It were my cue I would contact Barry and ask him if he would "clean it up". If he takes it in, you may find it a keeper when it returns or at the least make it ready for getting the most out of a sale... Nice cue. GLWS.

Thanks, as you can see, this is an old thread, I bumped it for a guy looking to buy it so he could see some pics. Thanks, I actually did what you suggested a few years ago, sent it to Barry, had him clean it up and put together an LOA.
