I can get behind this post ^ I can't stand the kid lol.... It is definitely disrespectful to celebrate with your team before the handshake as well. Souquet does it right every time, he walks over like a man and shakes hands before going to see his team and doesn't act like a goon when he wins.
Filler is a 20 year old kid. Ralf has been there, done that many times. The kid has played very well, just so happens he's doing it for the other side. I think if our guys were playing well and winning, they'd be celebrating like mad men.
As far as Filler celebrating with his team mates prior to shaking Hatch's hand, it was what,15 seconds? It's a team event, he'd just won a very close match. I don't think he was dissing Hatch, he was just caught up in the moment.
If Filler were playing for the USA and kicking ass, everybody would be anointing him as the next King of pool. While I hate to see Team USA getting beat, I've enjoyed watching the kid play. He's very, very good.

The MC committee should enforce some ground rules for etiquette if need be but that said, we should not crucify a young kid who is clearly relishing the privilege of playing in the mosconi cup and justifying his place with some fine performances.

Mosconi cup is about emotion and the crowd. It's the only pool event that has this much interaction with the crowd. Dennis hatch and oscar also played to the audience. Its what makes watching this so interesting. Other wise it'll be like any other tournament.
Dennis is the villain for USA team and Joshua is the villain for team e urope. It's no different than Earl in his hay day.

He's a great character for this format ... someone to hate on the other side :wink:
If he was on our side (and we were winning), we would call him passionate and patriotic.
Without question, Souquet is the pinnacle of sportsmanship and professionalism. He should be a model for every player. The guy is a monster, super cool under the heat, and *always* does the right thing. He's a super nice guy too. He spent lots of time with a friend of mine who was fairly new to pool just for nothing...just to be nice. I love the guy...he's what we should all aspire to.

We already know that everyone isn't going to be Classy,Professional,and slow like Soquet. There are always different personalities to deal with,but the best way to take the smirk off of filler's face,.and to stop him from over-celebrating,is to run out and park his Butt in his Chair! Hatch and the Others had their chances,they have more experience than Filler,the Americans consistently lost the Safety battles, and the Americans had ample chances to run out. There is no way in Hell,that Veteran Players should allow another Player to get in their Head,by complaining that he Celebrates too much,or didn't shake the opponents hand first!! It's not a Damn thing wrong with shaking his teammates hands first or hugging them in celebration,before shaking the Loser's hands!! That's crybaby B.S.,and I believe in etiquette,and good manners. Beat the Kid,and stop crying,and then you won't see him celebrating!

Filler's game and excitement for play is great for the sport of pool. We need to revitalize pool. Make pool exciting to watch for the general public. As long as he isn't breaking any rules and respectful towards his opponent, which included shaking hands, then I'm all for letting him do whatever he pleases.
I was just about to start a thread titled - "Is Filler on drugs?"
Filler's model is Shaw. Shaw acts the same way. He's just a kid. He will get it soon...or someone will give it to him. The U.S goes over to their team before shaking hands with the loser just as much. We just don't notice it as much...because they don't win as much. Johnnyt

He's annoying alright, but pool needs more people like him. German Earl.
The kid is young & naive. Plus he's seen Europe do it the past 2 years. Celebrating excessively & throwing the cue to the ground. Can't blame him & it brings something to the game as a spectator sport. The fans in the arena were eating it up.
On a side note, we wouldn't notice it as much if we weren't getting our asses handed to us again. His celebrations are just stinging an already open wound from the pounding we are getting once again.

His career has just taken of and he's been playing exceptionally solid this year. He beat van Boening which is huge.
He is genuinely happy and he's too young to hide it.
Be merry and happy for him. He's not arrogant or dismissive, just a lot of powerful emotions.
He will learn to control them when he grows up a little. But until then enjoy his lighthearted temper.

Genuine? It seems to me he's exaggerating it a bit. To me, his cheering comes across as an act, to be honest. Maybe to get under USA's skin, and he's doing a great job of that too if you read the comments in these threads.

I agree with you completely regarding Ralf - class personified at all times. But dont you think, being 30+ years his senior, he might to have a word with the kid about toning it down a little bit and saving the celebrations until after the match is over instead of after every game?
