The latest word is that Hanks will shut down on 12/27/17.
Just 2 days and a pool room that has been open under several owners and names since the early 1960's will be gone.
Rumor has it that the new owner of this building will reopen as a Bar only.
If any locals have different information please feel free to post it.
 
Sad to hear it. Unfortunately, this seems to be a pattern of the times. More and more pool halls close each day across the US.

Bank Shot in Louisville, Ky. closed on Thanksgiving day. This was the last real pool hall in the city and had been under the same ownership for the past 24 years. It also will no longer be a pool hall. The new owners have a different idea of what the property will be in the coming year.

Unless you own a table , the only decent tables in the area are all 3.5 x 7 Diamond bar boxes. Three places left in the Louisville are that are "mostly" pool related businesses. Only two places have a 4.5 x 9 table now.

Quite a place, wise guys, road players, the best chilie 50cents for a huge bowl.

Terry McFadden changed it to Paradise Billiards,
then Puerto Rican Hank took it over

Pretty sad for me to hear although not surprised.
The HVAC wasn't suitable anymore for a pool hall, and Hank didn't or couldn't make any improvements.
Hank told me they will raise the rent if he does any improvements.
Too cold in the bar area for his daughters, so no air conditioning for the players.
Quite an expensive fix to balance that system I'm sure.

I loved playing there at times

Brian at the Bank Shot had a hell of a sale price for the building and property for years....somone finally stepped up and paid it. There isn't one of you on AZB that would have done anything differently if you owned the building and property either.

Agree, but it will be missed. And down the road in Lexington, the situation is about the same. It's hard to be a pool player and fan these days.

When i met Brian 17 years ago, he told me the building and property was for sale, and for what he was asking, there was no rush to sell believe me! It's great for Brian that someone finally stepped up, i can't think of a single pool room owner in the past that cashed out with as much as Brian did!:thumbup:
 
Update
It seems that the closing of 12/27 was bad info.
Now its 1/27.
But its still closing.

Driving him home one day he gave me shortcut directions through this neighborhood that took forever so I named him GPS Phil, then he recommended a restaurant as "fabulous" that was the worst restaurant I've ever been to, so I re-named him Gourmet Phil.
You gave him the name Phil the Fin.
If I were a cruel person I would name him based on his taste in pool cues

Oh you haven't heard what he did now.
I really think his brain is going.
For those you that dont know he is 78.
He also lives on a small Social Security income.

He bought 2 Players cues and 2 Dufferin cues,all cheapies brand new off the internet.
He also bought a set of balls.
He bought all this so he could practice and get better.
Phil can not play,he is lucky to make 3 in row.

Not all the cues he has bought are bad.
He did sell me a great looking Troy Downey.

You know I like Phil I only kid the ones I like.
He got lucky on eBay with your cue
