Just bought a 7ft Pro am and I’ve noticed balls skidding, A LOT. My GCIII didn’t skid anywhere near this often. Is there a cause for this?

Table came with super aramith balls. I’m considering picking up either some cyclop tv Zues balls or super aramith tv balls. Which would you advise me to get?

New balls tend to skid till " broken in ". Also new cloth contributes too imo. Also if those are the only choices I personally can't recommend either over Cents ( but that's just preferences and either set is pretty good.

If New cloth this is to be expected with good install. Pass warm damp microfiber towel head to toe can help break the cloth in of this.

Clean the cloth if it isn't worn out.

For a Diamond, I like Aramith Tournament Pro Cup balls the best.

For a Brunswick table- Centennials

But this is just my opinion- I don't know Jack about Cyclops Balls.

Hurry up and invite me over. I will bring my balls.

Deal.

You want to be invited to the house warming party or when the table gets here? (ordered and is estimated to be here in late April, late May)

I'd be more interested in the pool party.

Unless the house warming party is a bachelor party? I do love a good bachelor party.

Are you hitting balls softer with a less natural stoke than on the other table? I find that if you do something funny with a stoke, the ball skids way more often, especially on stun/stop and follow shots. My son complains about this, but every time I have seen the ball jump on him, it was after he hit a shot in some odd way, poke, or tried to hold up his natural stroke to slow down the shot.

What about a house warming bachelor pool party?

I'll keep you posted on the billiard party (I feel dirty saying "pool party" at my advanced age)

On a serious note- isn't the reason balls skid is because there is too much friction between the ball and the cloth?

How do you get better friction between your tip and the cue ball?

Chalk

Where does your old chalk go?

Into the cloth.

Chalk in the cloth increases the friction, which increases skidding.

Of course, someone with a PhD in barking will correct my assumptions,,, but again it is only my opinion.

...
No it's too much friction between the balls. The cloth-ball friction is essentially irrelevant to skid. Of course if chalk from the cloth gets on the balls and arrives at the ball-ball contact point, that's a different matter.

Well, I don't consider that barking.

Thanks for helping me understand that,,, makes total sense.

You wouldn't by chance be using Kamui chalk, would you. Makes a mess of the CB and the cloth, which can only result in more skids / cling.

The table can’t cause skidding. Chalk, cloth and ball combination is the culprit

What you clean the balls with matters a lot as well. When I first got my table I used Meguiar's Ultimate Quick Detailer as Diamond recommended. I started getting skids way more than I would ever expect and noticed that when I rubbed two balls together they made a grinding noise due to the roughness between them. I switched to using Aramith ball cleaner and eventually got to where I am now with very rare skids due to normal reasons and the balls glide against each other and feel more like they should. Just my opinion, but backed by experience.
