I got to know Earl over the course of Grady's All Around tourney in Tampa in 83. Spent several hours knocking balls around in the practice room and just talking. I thought he was a real nice kid. This was many years before he started doing and saying things that people took issue with. He was calm, humble, smart and man, could he play. He liked how I played as fast as he did. He's always been one of my all-time favorite players.

Yeah, decent, but a polarizing personality. Bad sport, bad loser, bad winner.

Pool never really had trully awesome players to offer, for fans or to grow the audience.

Between him and a toothless dude, who can't speak decent English after 40 years spent travelling around the world.

Did Earl actually ever say "pool is a beautiful game played by ugly people" or was that just Joe Rogan making up that quote as something you wouldn't be surprised to hear Earl say?
