Bobby Fischer had a pool player personality

Eccentric guy, but his confidence and drive definitely shines through. I can see why he was a great chess player.

Aristotle once said, “no great mind has ever existed without a touch of madness.” I think there is much truth in this, and Fischer may be the greatest example of it in our times. I agree that there are pool players for whom this logic applies, too, but I'd rather not name names.

I came across this interview with Bobby Fischer today. He reminds me of many pool players! ha ha. The interview is jam up, IMO. Enjoy.

While perhaps not an "idol" of mine growing up, he has always been one of my favorite personalities. And, as a competitor, the thing I appreciated most about him was his ferocity. His drive. His absolute aggression. If you watch film of him actually playing chess, you will see he ALWAYS, without fail, slammed down each piece or pawn he ever moved. He NEVER simply slid it into place. He picked it up and slammed it onto the square. Every. Single. Time. For me, that spoke volumes. What a player. Some say, best ever. Who really knows, but, man... he was something else.

It's a shame we can't figure out a way for a pool matchup to grab the national attention the way Fisher/Spasky did

And it did... i was in the army at the time and I watched every match. And it was quite a conversation piece generally.

Fischer's chess was absolutely brilliant! 50 years later his games are still studied and emulated by chess players the world over. And yes he was an complete lunatic ! I think maybe Magnus Carlsen's game is the closest thing we've had since Fischer, but their personalities couldn't be more different.
