Cues you don't play, ever.

Does anyone have cues you don't use?

I own a cue I got out of hock for a friend. He never used it and has never tried to buy it back from me. It's been hit, but not played. No chalk dust in shaft, still has the weight sticker on the bottom. I understand I can't sell it as new but it's as close as it could be.

I've hit it a couple times is all over the 3 or 4 years I've had it. Before I got my main playing cue, this was the cue I wanted. Had another friend about a decade ago who had the same one. He lent his to me to try and I liked it. Hence me buying the same brand soon after.

It hits significantly different from my main player and I don't want to get my head confused by playing it and then going back to my main cue. Plus I like that it's in great condition. It's not an expensive cue. If I sold it on a great day I might get $300 for it.

Would you keep it as is or would you play it? How many of you play different cues through the week or month and still are not affected by the change?

Do any of you have cues that don't get played ever? I could understand something real expensive or a cue you don't like so much, but just an average cue?

I have a couple.

One is virgin '93 Schon with acme pin and stamped collar. I don't think it is collectable by any means, just never had the desire to chalk it up and play it.

The other is a Jim Buss. Some day I may be good enough to feel comfortable to use it. Yeah, I know, but that's how it is. YMMV

I have 2 brand new cues I don't use and have barely hit a ball with either one. My 2016 semi-custom ( lizard-print leather wrap instead of the linen listed on the Joss site ) Joss with 3 shafts and one of my two fully custom 2017 Meuccis. The Joss is solid as a rock but I just don't like the way it feels / hits balls and the Meucci was the "mistake" Meucci made when I originally ordered. Long story short, it's a great cue, looks gorgeous, solid as a rock but there were 3 different facets on the cue that were not what I ordered ( I designed the cue I *did* order, A to Z ). When I got it, I called Meucci and said, 'Ummm... no. This isn't how I ordered it." Much to their credit, they made another one, and that time got it right. I ended up paying a discounted price ( not a ton but somewhat ) for the "wrong" one to have in "reserve". But I've had it for a year now and have maybe hit 20 balls with it, if that. And the Joss I've had since June of 16 and have hit even less balls with. Someday I'll sell both, in all likelihood.

I had several far-less-expensive McDermott cues I ordered ( one custom, one from the site ) and ended up never using so I gave them away, one to the girl who cuts my hair who loves pool but had a real "cheapie" and the other to a girl at the pool room who loves pool and hits them pretty sporty but couldn't afford one.

I play with all my cues with the exception of one 6 pt. Black Boar. It was made in 95-96 for an executive RJ Reynolds . The man never played Pool and the cue sat in it's case for 20 yrs.
The cue looks like it just left Tony 's shop and I decided to keep it that way.

i have several that i don't hit until i sell them

i tend to play one cue at a time
if i switch i get confused

i bought my beautiful Drexler Wylie Coyote and
hated to be the first to try it as long as I was happy with
what I was playing

I usually tend to play with only relatively simple cues
because when I play regularly with a cue at the pool room
they get dinged and it grieves me

I know this sounds foolish,I buy them to play but then when I
get them I protect them by not playing

I recently made a decision to buy back my Ivory Joint Schon,
the previous owner had not played it,but I decided to play it
even though it is fancy,.

It surprised me how much I like to play with it,even though it is as fancy as
any cue and expensive I find myself really happy with it

If this continues I might sell all the rest and become a one
cue man

The last time I did that was a plain ebony schon that I kept
for 5 years

I ordered a really fancy Larry Vigus box cue because I love his cues
and they increase in value so much that I thought I was going to keep it forever

Then I got my Ivory Jointed Tribute which I never got to play with before

After one day i was in love with it

when i get my Vigus,I will not hit it till I sell the Schon

i have cues that never get played and i have decided its time t look into selling them

I have a nice Richard Black ebony and Ivory I don't play with, as well as an extra Scruggs made by Mike Cochran just before he passed away.

Palmer model M, 2nd catalog. Bought new in the early 70's. Never play with it now. Why not? Because my Josey has a much better hit.

(edit) I'll never sell it. It has my name under the clear window.

....... Back to the OP's question, Yes, I have 70's Viking that belonged to a friend of mine that he very lightly played and shortly after put in a case. Though I hit a couple balls with it once I don't play with it.

I'd think you'd find that happening more with those who have more high dollar artful and desirable high end classic cues than lower end players.

I have a ~1980 Scruggs that I've owned since 1990 with ebony points, ivory inlays, and two shafts with full cap ivory ferrules. It was my player for a few years before going into storage and hasn't been regularly played for over 20 years. I had it refinished and rewrapped by Bob Frey in 2017 and it hasn't been chalked or hit with since. Simply gorgeous, and listed as the "Ferrari in the Garage" in my signature.

My Balabushka I bought directly from George with the original carbon shaft is a cue I never play with.

Actually I do have a pretty nice cue I never or rarely play with. Schon SL-5 with 2 shafts. Used to be my daily player until I bought a Woodworth.
