Mosconi on ESPN?

I have a chromecast but I'd like to just pull it up natively on my TV. I loaded the Facebook app on there today. Supposedly it has a built in Chromecast feature too but haven't tried that. I have a Chromescast USB stick but would like not to have bothering using my pc to cast it over, When everything works like it should it is tough to beat a smart tv with working apps.
If you start a video in the Facebook app on a phone or tablet, the cast icon will appear, tap it and it is on the TV.

The problem with built-in apps in the TV is there are too many for them to support, keep updated, etc. The fire stick (and the Roku) are easy enough for my 70+ parents to use.

The November 2018 Billiards Digest says: "This year, American pool fans will be able to watch the competition live on Facebook, which has purchased the rights to the event."
I hope that this won't require an account, but I suspect it will. Why else would Facebook pay for the rights?

It's easy to blame things like cornhole and Crossfit, but they take up a tiny percentage of programming time. The real problem is the endless series of talking-heads shows about football, now including those focusing on fantasy sports and gambling. They are cheaper to produce and get better ratings - not a tough decision for ESPN programmers.

Facebook and YouTube are both malign influences on society but at least YouTube provides a simple interface. Facebook streaming video is painfully bad.

Sweet, I won’t be able to watch it anymore. **** Matchroom for being so shitty.

If you go to the Mosconi Cup website and click on the "Watch Live" tab, here's what you'll find:

partypoker Mosconi Cup XXIV – International Broadcast partners
Fox Asia (delayed coverage, check local listings)
Ziggo (Netherlands)
DAZN (Canada)
DAZN (Japan)
DAZN (Germany, Austria & Switzerland)
ESPN3 (USA)
ESPN Play (South America)
Watch ESPN (Brazil)
Kwese (Sub Saharan Africa, inc South Africa)
Nova (Czech Republic & Slovakia)
Sport Klub (Poland)
Sky New Zealand
Sky Sports (UK & Ireland)
Viasat (Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Bulgaria & Baltic States)
OSN (Middle East & North Africa)
Fox (Greece, Cyprus, Turkey, Malta, Italy)
Fox Australia

but XXIV was last year

Good catch, though the list is on their current website, and even the headline at the top of the "Watch Live" page refers to XXV. Seems strange that they wouldn't just note that the list was for 2017 and not 2018, since Roman numerals all kind of blend in with one another if you're not paying much attention.

Perhaps they just copied the list from last year and neglected to make changes.

[or maybe the Facebook thing is fake news, although Matchroom seems to confirm it with post #25 above]

You can just start a FB acct. and watch the pool with zero issues. The only stuff others will see is just what you provide. I don't have any background/timeline info on mine. I've never had any issues at all. If you want, just watch the pool and then de-activate/delete your acct. if you're still worried. Really not a big deal.

Seeing people complain about needing a facebook account just reinforces what others have previously said in this thread about the state of pool. You put a cornhole or skateboarding event on facebook and their fans wouldn't complain.

Thanks. Why not open a Facebook account in seconds and then you can watch it!

Why don’t you open up that privacy policy of Fecesbook and start reading through it. I bet you’ll be lucky to even own the Mosconi Cup name after this year. You have pretty much sold it to them for not being aware of how their setup works.

That's right is it? I don't think so.

Everyone wants something for nothing. People whine about PPV streaming. Facebook has to make money, so they are ad revenue supported. This means collecting info. Geez.

Oh no, Facebook knows that my mother is my mother and they have pictures of my friends and i, my life is ruined. ALL of the pool that i, and 99% of the others in my area, watch is on Facebook and solely on Facebook (perhaps youtube as well, after a certain amount of time), so i don't know what delusional fantasyland you have been living in where pool must be on TV. I think it would actually be amazing if Facebook "stole" pool, maybe people would care about it.

Collecting info is not making money. Selling info is where the money is at. ‘Your’ profile isn’t yours, it’s property of Fecesbook that you’re allowed to access and use. All photos and media you upload by default becomes property of Fecesbook. By clicking on that agree button, you’ve given up all rights to anything you post/upload to Fecesbook. All Mosconi cup matches that get streamed are property of Fecesbook and not Matchroom. They didn’t buy the rights to just stream it, they bought the rights to the 2019 Mosconi Cup so all further revenue from streaming goes to Fecesbook and not Matchroom. Don’t expect any matches to make it to YouTube like in years past.

Matchroom you sold your soul for very little, and screwed fans in the process.

Wow. Do you get your aluminum hats custom made? Seriously, the only stuff FB can get is what you allow them to get. To watch the MC its too easy just to open an acct., watch the pool and the delete your acct. Why should we expect to watch re-runs for free just because you could in years past? Do you see what MR is adding to the pot? Barry Hearn&Co. may be the LAST chance for pro pool in the US.

The irony of debating internet privacy on an internet message board is too damn delicious for me.

What i like is talking to friends that go out and drop a grand on a 4"x4" piece of chinese-made plastic, spend another 100bux/mo for service and then think that the s^*t they sling is somehow covered by privacy laws. VERY little of what we do in this digital swamp is private in ANY way. If you don't want to watch the MC on FB, don't.
