What happened here?

Fast forward to 53:20 and watch the break shot on the second table from the front of the screen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yEWVxrSjwMA

I've watched it 5 or 6 times now and I cannot see what happened to give the non-breaker BIH.

Can y'all tell what happened? I guess my brain doesn't process info as good as it used to.

You said "53:20" but perhaps you meant "41:30"? In which case the last sentence of your final paragraph may apply :D

I also don't understand what was wrong, but it appeared "obvious" to both players.

Did he miss the 1-ball?

You can hear the miscue in the audio.

Slug rack. Hit em like a little girl?

Do they do 4 balls past the side pocket or headstring at TS?

Could be, but the breaker started pointing at the balls just as soon as the hit 'em.

Maybe they do have the headstring rule and as soon as he hit the rack he knew he'd been slug racked. But...that scenario usually doesn't reward the incoming player with BIH.

Maybe he was cussing the racker?

If you watch the cue ball, it immediately hits the foot rail after the rack. It doesn't bounce back and go forward. That can only happen if it hits the one ball (or some other ball) very thin. He hit the break shot very, very badly. He might have hit the second ball thin.

Definitely miscued and missed the 1. It is to his credit that he calls his opponent's attention to it immediately. From his seated position his opponent may not have been able to tell which ball was contacted.

It starts about 53:20 on my computer. Is that weird or what?

I see what happened now. I thought you were talking about Mika, which has a similar confusing situation happen at 41:30. I now realize you meant the higher table for the other timeframe.

In that case, what happened at 41:30 with Mika? haha

I think Mika just broke dry. No BIH was taken. I think that was typical.

My bad. While I was scanning through the video looking for the instance of a break that looked normal that resulted in an unexpected BIH I somehow mistook that as the one you meant, in particular because I wasn't looking at the secondary table.

Thanks for posting the video from your cell phone. Once I saw that I realized what you were talking about.

These kinds of threads are fun “make the call” puzzles. It’s fun to try to dissect what’s going on.
