John Schmidt at BullShooters

Lou,

Sir, no disrespect intended but, you seem to think men of today are equal to men of yesteryear.

Me included Sir!, My Father.... and his generation and "most" generations before them .....well, we men today can't fill their shoes or hold their cues.

No, that's not it, JR.

And I don't think anyone is expecting Pool Player in a Tux. Maybe a pair of kakis and a polo shirt? Would that be so extraordinary?

Why do I have the feeling that even if he ran 3000 there would be a group of people saying he forgot to say mother may I ,or, please sir , more soup.
I think a good enema, would help a lot of people on here more than they can imagine.

You first.

Probably more like he isn't driving from town to town every day, sometimes 2 towns in one day, or, he didn't have to eat in a diner where people smoked, and let's not forget there was Leaded gasoline back then.

Yes, if a tree falls it really fell. Right?

The correct quote is - "If a tree falls in a forest and no one is around to hear it, did it make a sound?"

I was attempting to apply this logic to all the claims of massive high runs that no one witnessed other than the person who supposedly made the run.

I remember when Myron Zownir (I think I have his name correct) claimed to have made the nine ball something like six times in a row on the break....in his basement, when he was all alone.

I will tell you this one thing that I personally accomplished during a tournament with witnesses. I kicked in four balls in a row playing 9-Ball, all of them going directly into a pocket without hitting a rail. Not one was an easy kick shot! How I managed to keep getting hooked on each successive shot I can only attribute to the Pool Gods. This happened at the House of Billiards in Sherman Oaks, CA during one of their monthly tournaments that used to attract all the best players in the Los Angeles area. I also won that tournament beating none other than Keith McCready in the finals. As Efren would say, "I got lucky!"

Honestly, I'm enjoying the fact he is trying to do something that no one else seems to be bothered to even try.

And all this talk is nothing new. Have you talked to some older sports fans? It's against those people's religions that someone like Mike Trout be compared to Willie Mays or Joe DiMaggio.

Those of you that think John is doing this 100% out of his willingness to hold the record are very mistaken. John has stated numerous times there is SUBSTANTIAL financial reward at stake from his sponsors if he breaks the record on video. He was also compensated for his 400+ runs in CA during his last attempt at the record. He's got plenty of people behind him making this whole thing happen. I don't think it's too much to ask for him to look somewhat professional when the opportunity comes for him to pocket #527.

Jaw-dropping

At the 2 hour 6 minute
mark you will see the tragic way his 434 ball run ends. I’ve never seen anything like it and John himself says he’s never seen anything like it and for it to happen to end that run. It looks like Willie’s ghost is blowing really hard on the ball

With so many high runs on a nearly daily basis, it seems to me John may be hitting a mental "wall" in his attempts to break Willie's 526. I'm guessing he plays fast and loose until his runs get over 200, then he's gradually slowing down and feeling the mounting pressure particularly on any runs exceeding 300. He clearly has the skills and experience necessary to achieve his goal, if he can learn to deal with the intense pressure he must be feeling once he's over halfway there!

Very interesting comments on the slow-motion video. Definitely had everything to do with a rare spin
I think there was something funny/dirty with the ball. I have seen many, many balls come to a stop while spinning and none of them have done that.
