Throwing Frozen Caroms

Because I never seen it done. So I invented it. Dunno if someone have done same shot?
Many people. In Byrne's Standard Book of Pool and Billiards he mentions as an example that Cisero Murphy played a kick shot like that in a tournament in 1977. Of course Byrne was already long familiar with the action because it is a standard play at carom billiards to bend the cue ball into the right scoring line.

Also, see page 99 of Mike Massey's book on trick shots. He calls it the "Sweeper Draw Shot".

My own take on the shot is to place the cue ball frozen to the side cushion at the head string, spot a ball on the foot spot, and then shoot into the rail with draw and make the ball on the spot without touching the foot cushion.

Object ball get opposite English of cueball. So if you hit with draw you will get high on 1-ball and that probably end up missing that carom shot. If they are touching you can alter that tangent line a lot. A lot of trick shots use these kind setups.

examples:
First two shots of this trick shot video is almost full in face hit and power draw.

I remember reading spin transfer is about 15% of cueball spin. When balls are frozen cueball stays little longer on object ball so you can get more spin transfer.

Wow....that last shot was sweet.

BUT, it's much easier to throw the object ball past the tanget line with draw English on the cue ball than it is to BACK the object ball away from the tanget line with follow english.

In the attached diagram, if you hit the 1 ball it will carom off the two ball and follow the tangent line to land just inside the edge of the pocket. This is about the extent of my knowledge on the subject. Can anyone explain how to throw the one ball off line? Specifically, the effects of:

1. Follow
2. Draw
3. Inside English
4. Outside English
5. Cut Angle on One Ball
6. Dirty Balls
7. Speed

I just ordered Ray Martin's "99 Critical Shots of Pool". Are there any other publications that specifically focus on this subject?

Buy my DVD video "Caroms and Throws" I explain these ideas in detail. You can find information on how to order here on AZB's Classified section. Look for anything related to "Controlled Aggression".

Cool, that sounds like one to try. But I think Poolmanis and you are talking about different shots; he was pointing to this one, the 4 rail bank timing carom (which may well be original):

It's original if you can repeat the shot 3 times in a row🤣otherwise it's a fluke shot being repeated a second time, after many attempts!

Actually I copied it from Efren.. :D
My friend was playing World Champs a long time ago. He told me that he was watching Efren on practice table. He told Efren made small nod about one pocket and after that shot that timed carom in. I tried to figure out the shot from that story. :grin-square:
I did not have any clue how balls were anyway. So I think that is not really copied shot :D

It could be some kind Balkline carom gather shot.. maybe
