Straight Pool Tutorial with Thorsten

Very nice. Thanks for posting.
The reminds me of the time a made 100 balls...….it only took me 87 innings

Adaptability. He normally removes the up table balls on the rail but he ended up using it as his key ball because he had a good ball to get on the key ball.

Anyone else notice how ripped Thorsten is? I wouldn’t have figured a world class pro pool player would have guns like he’s got. Obviously he’s been spending nearly as much time working out as he has on a pool table!

Excellent video to get insight as to his thought process when running a rack and leaving an ideal break ball and angle.

Yes he completed the pattern quite well. This is one of the characteristics of the new winners at that game. They won't hesitate to deviate from classic principles. I think he addressed that at the beginning of the video where he mentioned the dreaded "locked up after the break" syndrome. These guys know the value of being at the table and aren't afraid to extend themselves toward that end.

Me, I wudda shot the nine. :grin-square:

I'm sure you're exaggerating intentionally, but if you're spending a ton of hours in the gym you're doing it wrong. Thorsten's kind of physique only takes about 60-90 minutes 3 times a week, in the gym. Where most people go wrong though, is it also takes 24/7 discipline about your diet, which is a lot harder to get right than the working out part is.

I'd bet he spends 5 times as many hours on his pool game as he does on working out.

My point was how many pro pool players have a physique like Thorsten’s? Can you name one?

Perhaps they could be found, but I don't think anyone all the way up at Thorsten's level or above could compete with him on physique. The dude's definitely in great shape.

I really like Thorsten's response to the question "How many do you think you can run from here?"

Ans:

Maybe 2 racks, maybe 10.

I like the blunt honesty

not really a tutorial. hes basically, just shoot and figure it out later

From what I understood he makes educated guesses
on what will happen when he breaks at speed.
He has done enough of them to have a good idea.
His pattern recognition is second nature at this point
and trying to play each shot to perfection is
too mentally draining for long runs.

Plus, you got a guy interrupting before every shot.
It's fun to watch him make a ball, get his mind right,
flow to the next shot, get interrupted, then just get down
and make the next without really resetting.

Not super informative but, I was entertained.
