First time buying a table, need help and opinion.

Yea true I’m not in the US, as someone mentioned in Asia.

Nevertheless I have found a used GC and as most of you suggested to me.

It’s a 9 ft GC 5 according to the guy I spoke to, it is used in a pool hall that is going to close up.

He wants an equivalent to about $3000 USD (I converted), do you guys think this is cheap for used or good price?

He say it’s in good condition and he’ll handle the moving and installation plus new cloth and balls.

I’m going to try to reduce his price to around 2,600 usd, lets see

Bare in mind this is even though it’s used it is more expensive than the brand new I posted in the original post up above.

That's a good price if it really is a used GCV and not one of the Chinese knock off copies. What you can find over there are Brunswick Metro tables that are also made in China. They are good solid tables that can be had for $1,000-1,500 when you find one. I like them better than the other Chinese knock offs that are made there.

I just spoke to the guy again he agreed on 2,600 USD, but then told me that it’s a gc5 limited edition.

I don’t know what that means, he said the slate is Brunswick but rest is broght from the UAE, now I don’t know the truth of the table in question.

Then he also told me he got a Brunswick gc4 for 2,400 USD also used.

Guys what you think I should do? He said he’ll send me a picture of the gc5.

Look for a Metro!

Jay it’s not something that I can easily find here in Asia. A pool hall is closing down and these are my options.

Used gc4 Brunswick original for 2,400 usd.

Or used gc5 that has Brunswick slate but he say the rest is put together in uae for 2,600 usd?

Metros have been sold all over Asia for over ten years now. I would probably go for the GC4 that is all original. The other one sounds a little funny. Either way, make sure you get under the table and inspect it. Check everything you can for fit, finish and solidity. Check the pockets closely to see how well attached they are to the rails. Pull on the rails and see if you can find any loose spots or softness in the cushions. Go all around the table and most importantly hit balls on the table, focusing on how the rails play, and how the pockets take the balls (hit them hard). See if you can shake the table with your body against it. It should be solid as a rock and immovable.

When you get under the table you are looking to see how well supported the slate is. If you can see the slate, examine it closely and ask if there are any cracks in the slate anywhere. Check the tightness of the rail bolts underneath the table. They should all be too tight for you to turn them with your hand.

Okay, now good luck. The most important thing is to have a GOOD table guy set it up for you!

Ok here’s last update

He sent me a video of the pool hall that’s closing down, with two types of tables

1. Original Brunswick gc4
2. A gc5 that according to him is original slate but the rest is made and built in UAE but matching the gc5

Now bare in mind he says that he will take care of installation

And gives new balls
And new cloth

He also went down on the price to $2000 USD

He told me pick either whichever I want for same price

What shall I do, I’ll upload the videos for whoever is interested to see.

Jay, the Metro pales in comparison structurally vs the Gold Crown. If he's got a lead on a legitimate GC IV, that's the choice. The GC V sounds suspect.

If the GC IV is in fact a legitimate Brunswick table, that's the choice.

The guy is telling the truth, he said GC IV is all original
However the GC V which is gc5 has original slates and cushion but rest is made identical in the UAE

As I said I’ll upload videos I hope it works, if you are experienced with gold crown I’m sure you’ll know and please give me advise as I’m about to tell him which one I choose between the two

Pls note that he lowered price of both to be 2000 USD, he will be responsible for movement and installation he will also install new cloth and give new balls with the price

He also swear about his gc5 he say it’s so good, so I don’t know

I hope the links work;

Pls give me answer for the GC experienced people, thanks.

There's not much footage of the GC IV but from the brief couple of seconds they are shown, they look to be legit. I'd stay away from the other tables.

I appreciate all the comments and advise that you guys have given me, I wouldn't know from the legs myself so thanks for your input.

I'm leaning towards the all original gc4 thus far, I hope for more comments before giving my final choice, the guy is waiting for me to choose.

Regarding the tables condition, he says the gc4 have a little bit of scratches beccause naturally they are older than the gc5 (Assembled in UAE) which are new and look neat according to him.

But still, even my friends told me to pick the gc4, scratches are in the outter wood and a friend of mine says these can easily be fixed if I want, but they don't affect gameplay whatsoever.

For $2K USD including setup, cloth and balls, I'd be running there with cash in hand and picking the best GC IV of the lot.
