Putting cheats on a home table

Has anyone ever tried to purposely put a secret defect on a pool table?

I've been thinking about inviting people over, but putting some special effects on the table.

Like a slight tilt to make pocketing easier.

Adjustments below the felt to throw lines off.

Several hard to spot flaws, but not so awful that it makes people question the table.

No, not that bored.

If I said my table at home is 20 years old and has known defects, then I think this thread is less exciting.

But after reviewing several tournament events and racks, I think pro players can notice slight defects on the table.

Now that I think about it league players and tournament players may suffer from this battle. How to cheat racks and how to cheat sections of the table.

I always wondered why racking was so important at pro matches.

Do road players need leveling devices to make sure pool tables are true?

This must be Justin

I would be thrilled if someone did this to me and wanted to make a friendly wager!

The scene in the Hustler when Fast Eddie finds out at the mansion he is paying carom not pocket billiards, that is the scene I am thinking.

In PoolHall Junkies any con is going to be responded to with violence.

I thought it would be fun to talk about.

At small tournaments where the tables are not newly clothed, I could imagine things like this happening.

I think this is a bad idea.

Over time, you'll eventually discover whatever peculiarities and rolls any given table has -- be happy with just that knowledge

Having said that, I recall a story concerning a 3C player who had an incredible set of "spot-on-the-wall" reference points. But before big match the opposing team went in the night before, hefted the table, and moved it a few inches -- enough to throw everything off :-)

there are some details you left out.

thanks for sharing, green that

Might be fun as a prank. I once put a little spring in a pocket..it inperceptively popped the ball back out. Took My friend a while to figure it out. I couldn’t keep a straight face.

Actually no need to rig a Snooker table if playing someone only used to American pool. They will keep missing ‘easy shots’ until they adjust. I always point out ‘the grain’ on my Snooker table and how a ball will ‘fall away’ depending on shooting up or down table. Also how wobbles along a rail won’t sink.

I have an inexpensive home table in my garage for the kids and their buddies and more importantly for when rum front comes through. I don't think I could ever purposely rig the table, that just doesn't seem right, but I've learned to gaff rack the hell out of it. Years ago Donny Mills gave me a short tutorial so I fiddled around with what I could remember and it turns out it works. Ie been stealing the kids money for years!

Doesn't every almost good 1p player carry pins?
That's the second time you've done that. You were already on probation. Someone will be by tomorrow to pick up your card and your ring.

Bob <-- doesn't understand why we let him in in the first place.

Ok, wutt is "pins" ???
At one pocket you have a lot of bank shots, especially cross-corner near the foot rail. You stick straight pins (or needles) into the rubber at 1/4 and 3/4 diamond positions on the left long rail and 1/2 and even diamond positions on the right long rail. You have to work them in far enough they aren't visible. Banks at those certain spots will go screwy.

What are they teaching kids in school these days? It couldn't be anything practical.:(

One time at band camp, I stuck a rattle snake in a pocket for my opponent to discover. It was a huge advantage when my opponent’s bridge hand swelled to size of a volleyball. It was disgusting. But, I started to wax him after that! Give that a try, IMO, better than rigging a table since it’s easily reversible.

Try doing that to an experienced action player...very shortly he’ll play the defects better
than you.

Wherever there is money to be made, there will be cheating.
Usually it's so infantile, t someone paying attention will eventually come along and it's over.
One of the most simple yet beautiful ones I ever saw was a very good player, who would exchange a slightly undersized cueball at different times in a game. He was very adept at it and I doubt anyone but an upper echelon player would even think about it. It only got discovered by accident by a top flight player. He got distracted after a match and left the ball behind and this guy came to practice, he hit about a dozen shots and put the cueball in between 2 other balls and now at least 3 of us knew.

Nope. My integrity is worth more to me than a few dollars taken from friends by cheating.

So are those friendships.
