Who's been up all night at the pool room and gone back to work instead of home?
I have...though work started at 7, thank God.
I was helping put together the world's biggest land oil rig. I worked twelve, shot pool twelve, worked twelve, shot pool a couple more hours before heading to the house for a badly needed shower and change of clothes. It was the drilling company's fault, the board road came out to the highway right at an old country bar that had a pool table in the back!
I had a small group of challengers on a pool table at the end of the night. The guys playing, the guys watching in the angry crowd, were peeling off to go straight to work. That is what broke up the game where I had held the table eight or ten hours minimum. I had went in the place in bright sunlight, it was a little bit of a surprise to step back out in bright sunlight the next day. Even the bartender had moved to the rail. If you needed something you had to holler. Good times, no scars from that session by a minor miracle! At one point there was between two and three dozen angry redneck country boys surrounding my partner and I. To add insult to injury, my partner and I took the two prettiest gals in the place down the road with us. Well, they were the prettiest, the onlyist too!
Life amongst the crazies. At the time I fit right in.
