Why tournament blue?

it doesnt matter the color you like, it matters the color of the cloth you must play on at your pool room or where you tend to go.
that is the color you want ingrained into your mind and vision.

Well I went with Tournament Green Simonis on the table I ordered .. and am waiting to have installed in the next week to 10 days. Cannot wait to see what it looks like under the pool table light box I built.

It seems that most tv matches are played on tournament blue color cloth. Why is that your favorite to play on if it is and if it isn't, why do you prefer something else?
Tour. Blue for me. I've played on both and its just easier to see edge of the ball on blue.

It's always easier to see outside during the day than in the evening. Dark green tree leaves are had to distinguish at sunset, but in the fall when some are yellow............................

The worst color is red.
With black coming in a close second.

Several years ago, I took some of the grandkids to a Main Event to play video games and bowl. To kill some time while they were playing, I rented a pool table to shoot a few balls/kill some time. Cloth was a very dark black. Never had a worse experience on a pool table in my life. I probably looked like a newbie in there trying like hell to make three balls in a row.

Keep in mind that my age was advancing past the days of good eyesight. I literally could not make out the edge of the balls (not even the 1-ball).

Scooped up all the balls and took the tray back to the counter after 30 minutes of pure, unadulterated frustration.

Maniac (prefers green)

T blue and Apple Green are really sharp especially when new. However I went with gold Simonis on a Mahogany table ...and Silver on a gloss black table. To my surprise the silver works out really well. I personally do not like green...never did. Simply taste. The worst I ever played on was in a clubhouse with Spruce and low watt bulbs. I needed a detective to find some of the balls.

not sure what it says about smart money,
every time I see that ad for real-estate investment showing a high end high rise with an orange felt table surrounded with glass for a view of the city...?
... buyers didn't make their money playing pool.

I'm also thinking that when the biggest, most intriguing billiard game takes hold, performing on blue green felt, well...

...tournament blue?

I'm a geezer, with cataracts too. Around ten years ago I found myself losing sight of the six ball at the far end of my 8' furniture grade table. I went to SBE to see this Tournament Blue thing more than anything else. I was convinced. I then found a deal on a Gold Crown IV and any cloth I wanted. Oh yeah, 860 Tournament Blue and when can you deliver?

I started making the six and never looked back. Yeah, I played on fuzzy green stuff back when Wooley Mammoth's walked the woods but this is now.

I like the blue, when we changed the tables from green to blue in our community rooms almost everyone liked it.
Worst is black, I even played on a table with black bed and red rails very weird

Blue is a bit lighter color than tournament green, so the colors of the balls show up a bit better. That is, if you focus on a spot on the object ball.

All the best,
WW
That is the reason why I have been considering switching from Simonis tournaments blue to Simonis apple green, just for a change, since we’ve had a tournament blue for our last 3 recoverings.

I do have two concerns. First, they don’t offer that color in 860 HR which we’ve had for many years, but only in standard 860. Secondly, just wondering if apple green is actually too bright - almost like a neon green, particularly with our relatively intense LED incandescent light tubes?

The worst color is red. Hollywood Billiards went to red and red chalk in an effort to beautify the room. Besides making the place look like a boudoir, I played two days there and I had that stuff on my shaft and in my case for weeks.
Yep! I agree. We had burgundy cloth on a home table for years and everything was stained red, the balls, the cues. It was so dark that it was hard to see.

Greg Sullivan from Diamond told me he actually paid a company to look into the best color for cloth and they came up with blue for several reasons from eyesight to TV. ...
The company was Pantone. They are pretty much the big company in color.

Apple Green Simonis 860 for me. No more Tournament Blue. Powder Blue is good too. See the attached pics.

Green is the best color for pool, and snooker.

This is why snooker always been played on green, as well as in pool pocket billiards until Simonis came along in the late 90's, this company advocates to separate themselves from snooker so they decided to sponsor most tournament and inject the blue as the new standard.

They claim that balls are seen better with blue in the pool table, while this is so scientifically untrue, the pool fans bought into this and took it as a fact, now the newest generation think and believe inside of their brains that they can see balls better with blue, but it is just an old lie that they just bought into the lie and then the placebo effect took over, now they literally believe blue is better to see balls.

But facts will always remain, evident by science, and remember snooker still uses it, green cloth is the best color for pool.

Apple Green Simonis 860 for me. No more Tournament Blue. Powder Blue is good too. See the attached pics.
I can’t see much difference between the apple green and the color you see on most pro tournament snooker Tables? Is it virtually the same color?

I would assume so.

And no more Standard Simonis Green for me. I saw some the other day down at Nick Varner's store in Owensboro. That stuff is really dark. I mean really dark.

Has it changed or does it just now look darker compared to the other brighter color options available?

I dont know if it's changed or not. But it's always been too dark for me. And it sure isnt getting any lighter either. That's why I hope and pray Simonis USA keeps the Apple Green from now till Doomsday. I've already told my guy in Indy that if Joe and Kamala give us another $1,400 I am going to have him come down and put Apple Green back on my Gold Crown IV.
