Is Schmidt's and charlie 626 Legit

People are watching it with Diet Cokes and Bud Lights in their hand, eating chili fries, schmoozing with JS and others, and taking bathroom breaks.

From all accounts, they are seeing a produced video with music and voice over and are not carefully watching original, raw, unedited video.

And claiming "many thousands... have viewed the video" is, without a doubt, a wild exaggeration.

Lou Figueroa
And the 300 witnesses you have watching the previous record never looked away? The only difference is they couldn't see becaues 300 is a lot of people in the room, and diet and lite weren't invented yet, they were drinking the good stuff!

So as great as Willie was.. John is the better all around player. He ran 400 before break the 526. John has won a world Straight Pool Championship and a US Nineball Championship. John also played Eightball, Tenball and One Pocket at a high level.

On top of those accomplishments the level of competition is much tougher today than in the fifties and sixties. Dennis, Joshua or Shane (and many others) would be able to spot the old timers plenty playing rotation, one pocket ect.

Take a player (World Champion) like Allen Hopkins or Bobby Hunter and imagine them playing Filler or Dennis. I rest my case!

I've talked to a couple of folks who have been at the viewings ;-)

Lou Figueroa

Can you put names to these folks, or are they just people you know who knew someone that is a friend of someone who attended?

Is it true than Danny Harriman attended one of the showings with a wig, fake beard, dark glasses, and dressed up like a potted plant? Ha! Ha! In some of the images, look r-e-a-l close at that potted plant!!

There are a number of reputable people who have spoken up:

Mark Wilson saw the video with Nick Varner
"...We were both entertained and genuinely astonished by the excellence demonstrated and rest assured neither of us found anything to critique regarding somebody setting the world record. Only 100 people have even seen the full video and it is certainly worth traveling great distances to see. We had people from South Carolina, Michigan, Kentucky, Wisconsin, Illinois, and Iowa present for this well scripted show.
...
I had looked forward to this and not once left the room to insure that I missed nothing despite being confident that John would not miss. My feelings are that nobody will beat this record over the next 65 years and John deserves far more positive attention for this feat."

Brad Simpson
"I just want to recap what an incredible event we saw last night. Jerry McWorter has put together an incredible presentation of one of the greatest achievements in sports history. Not only do you get to see John Schmidt's entire 626 ball run, but he is there to commentate and answer questions as you watch. ...."

I can put up more, but you've already read them.

Can you get a statement from anyone equally reputable that says the run wasn't real? Ah right, didn't think so.

What are your problems with Wilson, Varner, Simpson et al.? Do you think they're part of a conspiracy? Maybe they don't really understand straight pool? What are you saying exactly, Lou?

Maybe your 'folks' are as simple-minded as Danny's Bowel Movement?

That might be a hard sell, m-man.

A really hard one.

Lou's position has been consistent: he will reserve judgement until he has done his own analysis.

There is video of the event but it has never been publicly released for careful review.

Two guys at the BCA with questionable 14.1 credentials saw it in some form or another.
The video has not been made available for private viewing but rather public screenings.
No one has claimed the video has been doctored.
No one has claimed fouls were committed.

Somehow this burden wasn't placed on the Mosconi run. Meaning that the same level of expectation of those viewing the run...yes, you have a room full of people who signed an affidavit about Mosconi's run. But nowhere do we know if any of them actually watched the entire run, and if they were watching every shot with the level of scrutiny you wish to apply to viewing the video of JS run. Those folks at the Mosconi event were quite likely having an evenings entertainment, as well, just like those at the public viewings of the JS run. Nowhere has it been described that someone was watching every shot of the Mosconi run with Zapruder-level zeal.

That record was so long ago, the circumstances that created it are ignored by current folks.

They just accept.

Oh, hypocrisy.

Pot, meet kettle.

You claim that everyone that has viewed the video hasn't paid close attention to it. That, sir, is simply a lie. Its a wild claim. Its an exaggeration used to bolster your bias. You have zero idea about what everyone that went to view the video was watching.

I've talked to a couple of folks who have been at the viewings ;-)

Were the BCA guys that rubber stamped the Mosconi affidavit forensics trained lawyers?

Have you read any of the last 175 posts from Danny?

Sent from my SM-T830 using Tapatalk

Yes, I've read DH' posts and I corrected myself.

And, back in the day, the BCA had people on the board who actually cared about the sport and organized world championships, exhibition tours, and sponsored players rather than expos to sell hot tubs.

Maybe not all 300 but the witnesses who signed the affidavit.

They are folks that reached out to me -- I have no need to ID them.

And I have no problem with any of those guys.

Just another ‘Daydream Believer’, who(m) has no case, probably not even a pool cue case. Just another mouthpiece spouting off like an encyclopedia/KIA.

That might be a hard sell, m-man.

A really hard one.

Not really.

Oh, hypocrisy.

Yes, by Giorgio!

I understand he won't be releasing the unedited video but will eventually hold viewings two years from now for $50 a head. I believe the first one is scheduled to be held at a venue in Roswell NM.

Lou Figueroa
At least you have a good sense of humor. Lou you are growing on me!

Talk about mismatches.

...

Willie Mosconi 15 World Championships. Most all of which were Round Robin Matches where each participant played all other participants a series of matches.

Willie Mosconi, a true undisputed 15 World Championships.

You left out "former high run straight pool record holder".
