Is Schmidt's and charlie 626 Legit

Talk about mismatches.

John Schmidt, only had to win about 5 matches for a straight pool championship. Almost same stats for a nine ball so called championship that only had about four or five possible winners out of total players who just signed up so they could say that they had played in a championship tournament.

Willie Mosconi 15 World Championships. Most all of which were Round Robin Matches where each participant played all other participants a series of matches.

Willie Mosconi, a true undisputed 15 World Championships.

So as great as Willie was.. John is the better all around player. He ran 400 before break the 526. John has won a world Straight Pool Championship and a US Nineball Championship. John also played Eightball, Tenball and One Pocket at a high level.

On top of those accomplishments the level of competition is much tougher today than in the fifties and sixties. Dennis, Joshua or Shane (and many others) would be able to spot the old timers plenty playing rotation, one pocket ect.

From what I've read, Willie would routinely run 150 balls. He'd have exhibitions where they would advertise, "Come watch Willie run 200 balls".

Schmidt has a bunch of high runs, but from his interview, it sounds like his consistency jumped up a huge notch as a consequence of chasing Mosconi's record. He describes how he now can do multiple 100 ball runs in a day, and 200 balls runs are common, and 300 ball runs are common as well. He has more 400+ ball runs than anyone on the planet.

I think Schmidt may not have been Mosconi's speed when he started, but it sure sounds like he is now.

And he won a U.S Open. And he played all other games at a pro level.

Competition makes strange matchups. Prime to prime Mosconi would spot Schmidt 626 and beat him to a 1,000 easily. Ask Schmidt’s rackman, Doug Desmond. He actually played Willie in Willie’s prime. Everyone knows Schmidt still cannot average more than a few balls per inning against competition.
I don't need to ask anyone, I can read.

I saw Mosconi like maybe four times.

He ran 100 each time. And if you look through the dozens of other eye witness accounts you'll see it was universally true for just about everyone who ever saw him -- and that was in retirement, post heart attack and well past his competitive prime. He would just walk into a strange pool room, take two racks of practice, play his exhibition match against the local champ, and consistently run 100. He'd did that 300 days of the year for many years.

JS could not dream of doing that, IMO.

I'd like to see : 8 of the worlds top 14.1 players in a round robin tournament on 9 foot tables with pocket size comparable to what Willie played on . 1000 point matches against each other . 7 matches in all . When Willie set his record , it was in competition . It was against the local hero but , competition . If Willie missed , he gave up the table . In my format , there would be some interesting runs .

Maybe. But Schmidt looks like he's the current world-wide king of high runs in 14.1. Is there anyone else who's even close to Schmidt in terms of the sheer number of high runs over 300?

There's also the question of the different equipment (8' vs 9'), etc. All the straight pool players i know think that 8' tables are easier, although none of have run 300+.

I don't think it matters if he never ran 3 balls before he ran 626. The record is for one run, not lifetime achievement or being more Mosconi-ish than Mosconi.
I'd bet that if Jon were payed by Brunswick to run balls 300 days a yr, for many yrs,
He'd be able to have similar results

You mean he'd have 15 world championships? Don't forget Mosconi's Brunswick gig in which he gave those exhibitions (and was paid $50K/year just for wearing the Brunswick jacket) came after all those championships, not before.

By the by, where can I review these championship wins?
I would like to see any info on them if possible, dates locations, entrants

I often try to find old Carom championship data to review as well but with no luck at all ,

I think Bob Jewett had a link to that somewhere. Maybe he'll see this and chime in. Sigel once told me that some of Mosconi's 15 wins were in years when they held no championship so they simply credited him with a win for that year. I was too polite to tell him he was full of chit.

Danny you have crossed the line. Instead of spending time threatening people you don't know (about a record you were not involved in) you would be wise to re-invest your time.

I sincerely hope you would consider returning to get your high school diploma. Or maybe you could invest your time on the BANK POOL WORLD RECORD... I have been told it is the purest game around.

Please drop me your address and I will send you (and Rico) some BETA tapes for the video machine. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=CJAxaaZ3UEQ&ved=2ahUKEwiplca1vdvuAhWig-AKHSfUAtkQz40FMAJ6BAgBEC0&usg=AOvVaw35SL80UCI4o4wHGTHOSYBb.

Warm regards,
I have met Willie and played on the Mosconi Cup - (TEAM USA Member here) so I am involved with his official record of 526. U call me names saying I am a waste, hmm well I must not been a waste to team USA on the Mosconi Cup (we Won the cup and were victorious (unlike the times when j.s was involved with Mosconi Cup) how ironic for j.s. and mark wilson (the losing team captain). So again I DO know u - well enough to note - your a coward that hides behind yer screen avatar, not really sure if u male or female? Please keep in mind yer calling me names - just cause I choose NOT to believe in their little theater show as viable proof that Willie's 526 has been undone. This makes u look almost as weak as a declawed kitten scratching at a door in the winter time. Keep scratching - u have no clue how stupid u make yerself look. This MO tiger will never let u in - freeze out there with the rest of the fake news crowd - I hope it gets even colder for ya. Straight Pool will live long after cyber fake news catalyst's such as u are long forgotten. Ur not really worth replying to so that is my last transmission with the coward scum like u - youv'e' been blocked. Cold regaurds'

Then a question you should be asking is could Willie have won win a major Nine ball title?
