CAST CHANGES
Tom Theriault and Ben Francis have replaced Alex Pagulayan and John Morra for Canada
I know the Canadian organization responsible for selecting our players ran down a list of candidates. The finally ended up with Tom and Ben. The extremely short notice made it very difficult to fill the spots from what I hear. I don't know Tom, and Ben has always struck me as more of a barbox specialist. Regardless it's a fantastic opportunity for them. I wish them the best, and hope they enjoy themselves.

Just monthly or yearly. Remember they’ve got the World Pool Masters in 2 weeks and then the World Pool Championship after that.

Wow, wow, big upset coming up
Lowest ranked minnows Slovakia playing great pool leads defending champ Austria 5-1
They are fearless and want to beat Austria badly probably cos they are neighbors
Just 2 more racks.
Go Go Slo.

Austria is out in a very well played match by Slovakia. They got a roll or two early, but luck had far less to do with this result than the commentators seemed to want us to believe during the match. Thankfully, the commentators were far more generous in their post-match comments. Slovakia, in particular, played a fine defensive match, creating several extra chances.

Slovakia will now play the Czech Republic, a match that would once not have been possible at the World Cup of Pool, as they were both part of the same country, namely Czechoslovakia. One of them will reach the quarterfinals.

Not sure about Hungarians but both Czech players are amateurs, one works at car dealership, the other works as a casino manager, pool is "just" a hobby for both of them..
Hungarian Vilmos Foldes is quite a well known pro with some credentials. He reached the semis of the WPA World 9-ball one year, perhaps fifteen years ago.

Tom is from Edmunston New Brunswick, which borders a remote tip of Maine and a kinda remote part of Quebec. He has mostly played in regional tours in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Eastern Quebec. And he's travelled down occasionally for Joss NE tour, Turning Stone or to Canadian Championships. He almost got Alex, losing 13 to 15 in Canadian Championships a couple years ago

I know Vilmos since he was 14 years old so I am aware of his accomplishments, also I know that Szolnoki is top15 player at Eurotour but i dont know if any of these two play pool full time nowadays. I know that both Czech players dont..
Had Foldes been living in the US at one time? He was in a lot of tournaments in the US for quite few years.

sajich is no push over, but his partner, never heard of him. australia has many good (potential) players, but i think they play e8b mostly.
Though he is not as strong as Sajich, Ivan (Meng) Li has had some good success recently in regional and national 9-Ball and 10-Ball events in Australia, winning some titles.
