Let's talk chalk

Probably because the law of diminishing returns kicks in almost instantly. When the 'chalk thing' was really new we(local room) tried a bunch of them. It became clear REALLY quick that hi-dollar chalk offered little to nothing for the money spent. Maybe a little less dust/few more shots as in the case of Magic/BlueDiamond but not worth the $$ in the long run. $3 vs. .50/cube adds up pretty quick. Paying $15+ for chalk is, just my $.02 here, really crazy. Tried a friends Kamui and Taom and didn't see the attraction myself.

Agree the round size is a joke. I watched a guy chase his all over one day. Kinda comical. I'd list Magic and Blue Diam. at 1-1A and then Master. Poolhall i play at has Master. I use it.
Come on guys:

Improvise, adapt, and overcome.

EMERGENCY ALERT……..PAGING DR. ALCIATORE…….Dr. ALCIATORE……..CALLING DR. ALCIATORE.

That’s all I got to offer….do whatever you will….it’s your money….if it makes you feel better, great but it’s
inarguable that no brand chalk makes you a better player or shoot any better as long as you chalk properly.
Dr. Dave Alciatore, noted pool neurosurgeon, has done extensive research. In the end, use whatever you like.

Well since you put it that way , I'll have a nice tea with a slice of lemon or a Dr Pepper if I'm feeling wild and crazy ha ha
To go with my master's chalk on my old pool cue ha ha

I'll use anything but Silver Cup or Triangle, but Master's is what I spend my hard earned two bits on.

Because its completely unnecessary, especially $30 for 1 cube of Kamui that not only makes a mess for the user but then he shares that mess with everyone else playing on that same table. Nothing is worse than a fellow competitor who uses Kamui then when everyone else gets to shoot they are playing with a ball all goobered up with Kamui. I don't need to spend $30 on chalk because the only time I miss-cue is when I stroke the cue bad and that aint the chalks fault and $30 chalk will not fix that. It is my opinion that Kamui should be banned for the mess it makes, if you realize chalk on the q-ball or object ball causes more throw Kamui users should be very concerned.

This is not a pool room thing. Players need to own their own chalk and that's really the discussion. Pool room owners are not going to buy high dollar chalk. I used to buy Master by the gross it was cheap. But better then most.

When Master came out it was a miracle for pool room owners. I can't remember the name of the chalk everyone used before that but it made a huge mess on the tables. It got into the cloth and because it is abrasive wore it out faster.

Edit, I just remembered the name of the chalk we used to use. National Tournament. It was good but a real messy chalk.

There are other reasons why one might buy chalk ranging from appeasing one’s ego
to it just makes less of a mess. Regardless, don’t make light of another man’s cue or
chalk. Now how a player applies any chalk to the cue tip is an entirely different matter.

And I think the one thing that might unite all pool players: Anyone who places a chalk cube chalk-side down on the rail deserves to be banished from the pool room.

I’m really liking the diamond blue. It seems to go onto the tip more like lipstick than powder if that makes sense. Doesn’t create a ton of dust and lasts more hits before a miscue than others I’ve seen tested. In the end it gives me confidence so I’m sticking with it for now.

I’m on board with this! I finally asked a buddy to please stop because it made such a mess of the table and I was tired of being the only one to care enough to clean the table. He understood and were still friends ;)

Well my friends, I like Kamui. The problem is that most do not know how to use it. It is not to be used for every shot as you do with regular chalk. I only chalk once every one or two racks or when I need a lot of English. Kamui is soft and does not need to be ground in the tip.

His video on chalk indicates that no chalk is usefully better than the others (for reasonable definitions of usefully).

I tried most of the chalks and came to the conclusion that Masters works just fine.
I chalk up every 2 shots or so.

Every shot for me. It's part of my pre shot routine. As part of my training, I'm only allowed to think when my chalk is in my hand.

Agreed.... and I think skids are more likely with some of the "specialty" chalk.
