The Willie Hoppe story...

Took several 3 cushion lessons from a 70+ year old guy who knew Willie well and traveled with him. 21st Centuary Billiards in Nashville (upstairs). Can’t believe I must have thrown away the 3 ring binder of notes he gave me!

Thanks for that! A few times - about 7 years ago- i had a chance to visit the NY Athletic Club on Central Park West - where this exhibition took place. They had an unbelievable billiard room there - at least 4 tables, full size , it was set up like a 1930s billiard parlor- with the old chairs, wall racks, lights, etc. - just amazing! i don't know if it still survives to this day. I believe that it was on the ninth floor of the club.

Also the Union Club on Park Avenue and around 39 street in NYC had a magnificent billiard room- almost every major country club in America had a billiard room as well- dating back to the early 1900s- most of those tables ended up in the store room basements of the country clubs by the 1970s.

Thirty Years of billiards , is a good read. It comes in paperback . There is a first edition hardback on biblio.com for 125.00 which seems like a great price to me. I think thats about what I paid 30 years ago.

There is a hardback copy available here for $50; paperback is cheaper, like $15 delivered:

The paperback was a Dover reprint which is a very good photocopy of the original that was done after the copyright expired. It is nearly identical to the original.
