Yes, they are a necessary evil now .
Biado finally figured out how to jump better and won the US Open because of it ( or a big part of it ).

Since the US Open is not sponsored by Pred and other cue companies, maybe they'd take it away.
Limit the players to two full length cues only .

I love watching kicking and safe battles .
The jumpers really take away that big part of the match.

Why do they need two cues?

agreed.

I think using a short cue is ok, but how about getting rid of the phenolic tip?

it sounds ugly, and damages the cb
using a hard leather tip would offer the jump option
but would force players to think twice about doing it

Have you ever tried a White Diamond tip?
It is non phenolic and jumps like a rabbit.
I actually like it better then phenolic.
I hear the Bulletproof tip is good too. I Want to try one.

not hip..I'm honestly more of a turtle, but sounds good if it's leather-ish

They had a quick “best shots of the tournament” clip before the finals. I think 4 out of 6 shots they showed were basic jump shots with one jump that resulted in a miss but flukes in two rails down table. Probably safe to say Matchrooms US Open will always have the jump cue unfortunately.

I was being cheeky. While they’re taking away the jump cues, they might as well strip the break cues too!
That would put the guys that like a soft tip at a clear disadvantage, wouldn't it. Then they would bitch and complain that hard tips shouldn't be allowed.

They can get rid of break cues.

I have used every cue I have ever owned to break with thousands and thousands of times.

I have custom and production cues costing into the thousands…wood and carbon fiber.

I have broke with cues with ivory ferrules, fiber ferrules, plastic ferrules, and no ferrules.

I have never broke a shaft, a ferrule, or ruined my tip.

I can hit the balls just about as hard as anyone.

I have had people come all the way across the pool hall to ask me how I am hitting them so hard because they can hear the balls breaking from the other side of the room.

I have an old Cuetec that I put a White Diamond on, but I rarely ever used it.

I prefer breaking with my playing cue with the leather tip.

It lets me control the cue ball better.

Some day when they ban the jump cue, Predator will design a full length carbon fiber break cue with quick release removable weight.

And then we’ll be back here decrying the full length not-a-jump jump cue.

people have been arguing the mlb rules forever. in the nl the pitcher hits. in the al there is a dh. who is right? and why? and on and on and on

And what tip are you using may I ask?

I can kick just fine , and I had to today to make an 8.

But jump gives better shot to make a ball than kicking generally, so I'm happy to be using all the tools as needed.
Yep.

I made a sweet long rail kick to thin the 5 into the side pocket last night. Had the 5 been 3 inches close to me on the same line, I would’ve jumped because it would’ve been the better shot.

Here’s another news flash. Sometimes I follow the cueball and sometimes I draw it, because it’s the better shot. 😁
