People bitching about 7’ tables

Don’t you realize you are concurring with my post. The outcome is the same with either of the answers.
They might choose to practice on an easier” 7’ table because their league uses them. But practicing on
harder tables makes your game get a lot better when you go play on easier tables so why not choose a 9’?

A large segment play on both, largely of leagues being popular but everyone should have a table preference.
For me, I want the hardest table Imaginable. A 10’ table with 4.5” CP is a daunting pool table that will reallyAre
overpower weaker players. I’d even prefer tighter CP pockets (4.25”). Now that’s a table would test your skills.
Are you kidding me? I play on all size tables. There is never a cluster on a 9 that is similar to a 7. You are delusional at best or simply a 9 foot snob at worst. They are different games, period. You are so myopic you will never get it so just bug out of the thread. You are either stunted mentally or simply young, stupid and/or ignorant. Grow up.

If playing on the big tables makes your game better on the small tables, why do the bar box specialists usually outperform big-table players in bar box tournaments?

They both are pool, but they aren’t exactly the same when it comes to playing on them.

Some people prefer to play on bar tables.

Back when pool was popular and everybody was gambling, you could find more action in the bars than you could in the pool halls.

He is clueless.

He may have fancy cues, but he seems to be a drugstore cowboy when it actually comes to playing pool.

And, he isn’t young.

That’s the right idea 100%

Don’t give 2 shits, just play pool!!!!

I think 7-foot tables are fun to play on.

Especially when they had the BIG cue ball.

That cue ball could really put a damper on somebody’s game if they weren’t accustomed to playing with it. I used to laugh when people could never get the cue ball to draw. The people who always played on the big tables with regular-sized cue balls would struggle with the BIG one and the bar table specialist would usually win.

That is when I started having all my cues made to 21 ounces with 14mm shafts.

I could draw the BIG cue ball with no problem.

what are the rules for league pool in terms of table size? if your home team turf has 9fts and the others have 7fts how does that play out?

The APA league at Hawaiian Brian’s plays on 9-foot tables.

The teams that go to Vegas get creamed on the 7-foot tables.

Yep same for my Masters team...

We play on 9fters whether it be league or not. Make trip down, and end up losing to teams that simply live on BB. We're stronger potters but their table IQ for that size is far greater.

Not saying we can't play a mean game of BB. Just that on the whole a BB specialist sees the 'small game' differently.

I'll go as far as to say it has nothing to do with varying 'skills'. Merely table management.

Howdy;

They gotta come to your place as well. All the teams gotta play at all the other
teams places. That way there is no 'Home field' advantage.

buckshotshoey, Howdy;

I can go to the nearest town that's larger then the village I dwell outside of so, 25 miles to
Truth or Consequences, N.M. There is 1 9 footer at the Community Center (open from 8:00am
to 3:00 pm), or I can go to my local VFW post only 21 miles for my choise of 7' tables. Now,
if I want to shoot on 9 footers I can go to the Olhausen store in Las Cruces that's 61 or 2 miles
an hours drive or I can elect to go to Mission Billiards in Alamogordo, NM and that at roughly
124 miles and a 2 hour drive going past White Sands NP. Don't forget, I have to drive back too.
"Suck it up Buttercup", you got it easy where you are.

Or I can drive NOWHERE and play on my 7 foot in the garage. 4 25 corners ...4.75 sides.... new Worsted cloth and new Championship cushions.

The point is why look down at or belittle people for chosing to play on a 7 foot table. If you want to drive 25 miles each way to play on a 9-foot table, I guess that's your choice.

Do I prefer play on a 9 foot? Yes. If I had room for it, would I own a 9ft? Yes. I would give my left nut for a Gold Crown IV. But I have chosen a 7 ft because it's the right one for me.

Your last sentence said it all. That's why pros can make ANY table look easy.

Apa rules state...(paraphrasing)..

You must use equipment provided by host location.

That said, people wont play there for long if you use oversized cue balls, or crappy equipment.

Come to Buffalo’s, we can play some on the 10’er.

Tell me about the ten footer. Depending on a few things I generally make it to Buff's every six months. I hit on the snooker table when it was there. The 11.8 Revo seemed like it was gonna make a fine snooker shaft.

I lost my home. I don't know where I am going so I might see a lot more of Buff's or none at all.

B-shot-hoey, Howdy;

I'm not belittling anyone nor am I being a 9' snob. I've shot the majority of the 61 years I've been playing pool on 7' BB's.
It's difficult at best to fit one in an RV as that's what I live in (by choice), Also, I wouldn't go into Toledo either. Well, maybe,
if there was a 10 footer there. chuckle. I drive the 21 miles to play at my VFW Post. 2 tables, almost no waiting, and 25 cents
a rack. Only thing better is the FREE pool on Sundays and Mondays.

Sorry for your loss. Hard to rebuild in those areas. Best of luck to ya.

Yup, I play on them all and what I see often is
9ft-8ft with fast cloth and newish balls , balls spread all over, have tons of space to get on shots not nearly any or the amount of clusters to deal with, wide open spaces to land on a shot, cue ball travels with ease on modern equipment.

Bigger table doesn't mean harder, means more forgiving spaces to have a shot lol

I have a story about tight pockets. A friend once said to me it is a bad idea to have a pool hall with tight pockets because nobody would want to play because it would be too hard for a non regular. You need non regulars around to help with profits. I didnt think much of the opinion until I saw it play out.

There was a nice pool hall about 4 hours from where I live. Had a few good tournaments 2-3 times a year and had a cheap motel next door, calcuttas were great. The owner decided to upgrade the dufferin tables to diamond tables. Great idea but his mistake was he ordered the tables with pro cut pockets. They played tough after. Long story short, the regulars got very good on bar table diamonds but the non regulars stopped showing up and no surprise place shut down in about a year. Was sad to see it go.

Personally I feel some games should only be played on certain tables. 8 ball is great on 7 and 8 foots but is a crappy game on 9 foots I think. 9 ball should only be played on 9 footers and the game sucks big time on 7 footers. 10 ball is a great game regardless of table size. One pocket is only game that should be played with ridiculously tight pockets. just my opinion

Sorry if I made it sound like you are belittling anyone. But that's the basic flavor of these threads. There are some on here that think the 7ft table should be banned altogether... They have actually said that.

I’ve seen plenty of players sleeping at Buffalo’s. The 10’ er plays real good with 4.25 corners.

On a serious note, I’m sorry you lost your home. I feel sorry for everyone that lost their homes all along the path of Ida. We lost ours in Lakeview after Katrina.
