How much money do you think he could have made from this? Best case scenario.
Maybe, if all the stars lined up and somehow got lucky $50k. Maybe. Thinking about it, there’s just not much to sell it buy. Even with sponsor $ attached to the feat somehow really isn’t expensive advertising. And the number of viewers is a very very small niche market.

Getting front page accolades online or in print media(does that still exist) are brownie points not money.

A moment in the spot light that lays very little.

As JB noted it’s good for his “after pool” appearance money should JS choose that path. But the record itself isn’t that valuable.

Not sure if Barry sold hit bats or the home run balls, but I knw that the table felt and a certificate confirming the record are offered. This might push things over 50K (even simple math of 626 pieces @ $100 bucks is 62K). I'm sure the first and last pieces are a little more money. Add on the viewings and whatnot, and there might be a little gravy for holding the record.

Serious question:

If someone were to tabulate the number of at bats Barry Bonds had during the season that he hit 73 home runs and then privately set up the most ideal stadium for his style and strengths, used the most suitable equipment,

Sorry, that first part of my post about Barry Bonds was from a separate post and was an incomplete and rough draft...I deleted it...May finish it and post it in full later.

Cutting the cloth into 626 pieces shows some marketing savvy I think.

I agree with others that there was never going to be a whole whack of money made as a consequence of the high run. He'd make some money for sure, and more than enough to cover his expenses. Maybe the best he could hope for is a decent per hour wage for the time he pursued the record.

14.1 is such a niche market. I noticed on the 'Legends' live stream that viewer numbers seemed to peak at around 500 at any one time, with the numbers fluctuating a fair amount, and dropping whenever SVB missed a ball. I think that's pretty good for 14.1, and it will be interesting to see if it increases as time goes on, or decreases as boredom sets in. The people I've talked to about the live stream all said they just dropped in for a few minutes at a time.

Some of the 9-ball and 8-ball live streams I've looked at had 2,000 or 3,000 live viewers.

Ever heard the phrase, "we do not own the rights to the music in this video" while everyone can atill watch the pool video for free? Look up that disclaimer and see if it makes in legal to still show the video with the back ground music recorded on it! If John were to sell a video of his run, he would lose all his rights to protect it as well, therefore losing out on any value he has still owning the only copy of it and showing it to small groups!!!
Roger that, but u failed to answer my question - I originally asked. Also it would seem there is a market for a broke pool player - if he can compare (enter the corrupt hall of fame card) himself to a past Champion - such as Mosconi. Willie Mosconi did not claim to have caught the run on camera - as where j.s./ c.w. - have. At the Smithsonian they DO have the signed affidavit (evidence) to show to public, so as nothing to hide. schmidtty and charlie do not have any unedited video - for public to view, this makes their claim bogus and shady - casting j.s 626 CLAIM - in a bad light. Also anyone who does attend their little theater show - does not leave with a signed copy - this gives more support to the 626 claim - being false. To believe in something - is a type of personal investment. I choose to see the numbers i.e. unedited video, before accepting it as a new record. So they get to steal Mosconi's record and Claim the reason for not showing unedited proof for sale - is they are afraid it will get stolen - that is ironic? So I will ask u one more time - since u had trouble answering the first time. If u were interested in purchasing a pool room - from a seller whom u did not know well and thought u saw a bargain deal - would u want to travel there and study the books, or would u just accept the owners word that 'business is good' and send him the dough? I no think u would invest in a venture unless u knew for sure it was genuine. There is a new 14.1 challenge, if true success is achieved - when it comes to providing proof - they will show the public their numbers and offer it for sale - as to avoid any bad publicity. People who hide the product they are trying to promote - are inevitably running from the truth and or have alterior' motive for having done so. I make good investments when it comes to Pocket Billiards - just ask yer buddy j.s. - he and bca got to take a close look at my 14.1 investment ability - it's Genuine. I agree with Fatboy, they (j.s. teem) failed miserably - to monetize or even convince the public that any new World Record in 14.1 has been achieved. The people who end up in the j.s. edited theater show - are small indeed, had john claimed to have run 626 - without a camera - his claim would have been better received.

And you are again repeating a false analogy. We don't have to take the room owner's (JS) word for the finances because we had our 3rd party accountants (BCA and others) review and verify them for us. Shove that up your Smithsonian hole Bitter McBitter Pants.

I had not followed this until recently. I wasted a bunch of time reading some of this thread. I also ran into another thread on this topic in the 14.1 channel. Wow, I had no idea there was so much resentment, fighting, and petty stuff going on. I've not seen the run, but watched parts of a few of his bigger runs. Impressive. To Dan, I am sure you have an impressive game too.

What is the summary at this point? Is it pretty much:

  • Lots of bad blood between some and JS. Probably a bit of fault to go around from all sides.
  • Record was reported, those with bad blood immediately and publically discredited it, basically because he did it and folks did not "like" him.
  • There has been questions of this being an exhibition or not, table conditions, was there a scratch, did it really happen, BCA is not good enough of a judge...
  • As time went on, no video was public, so all of the above became more likely in the eyes of the doubters.
  • A few saw the video via public showings, still not good enough for the doubters. It was spread up at times to hide something. Those reputable sources that posted about it, not good enough...

Has this ever been made public? Has any of the doubters looked at it? What's outstanding at this point?

I sure would love to see some high runs in that current event. Table seems to be setup just as ideally as what the 626 was done on...we will see. Anyway, just curious...

Do u find it ironic that john is barred from competing in the new challenge u were just referencing? Why is it - u think that he is not allowed to compete? I think u meant 'so all the BELOW became more likely - in the eyes of the doubters'. I am above any fake news claims about 14.1 - not below. It is going purty low however - to try and steal American Sports History Record - for monetary gain or fame.

I do not know any of the players in this equation, so I do not know. I gather there is bad blood between the promoter and JS. I'm guessing blame can be placed to a degree on both of them. I have heard he is also is recovering from surgery. Personally, I hope huge runs are put up. I hope he recovers. I hope he gets invited. I hope he also puts up some huge runs. Not sure any of that is going to happen, and honestly, don't really care. (well...I guess I kind of do or I would not be here typing...I just like a good sporting triumph and massive runs would qualify)

Honestly, and I apologize for my ignorance, I did not know of your name prior to reading these threads. Not sure where you are at with your game, but from what I read, you are, or were, one of the best at 14.1. If so, I'd love to see you come and put a big run together too. Personally speaking, I can easily screw it up and not even get through 1 rack. I enjoy seeing the ease at which SVB moves the ball, the precision, and the shot-making. I also enjoy seeing this world-beater screw it up, much like I so easily do! TIn my limited experience, 14.1 is a different beast. It would be awesome to see a 14.1 specialist put these world-beaters in their "place"! :)

Fair enough - do you care if the schmidt teem ever does produce unedited evidence - for sale to Open Public and in disc form - of their 626 claim - that was supposedly caught on Camera?

From a cynical perspective...John Schmidt is not supposed to come to this high run event because it’s purpose is to best his record, and then release the footage to ‘the public’ to take any future interest away from the 626 run, while making cash in whatever ways the organizers think JS & Co. should’ve done when he broke the record.

Who knows what’s in someone else’s head though? I don’t know anyone involved in the project but I’ve been seeing allusions to this thinking.

I dig the high run event myself. I was emotionally invested in JS trial to beat 526 balls made continuously, I watched often and had ups and downs. When I heard he had done it I was at a Memorial Day (I think) party and I was telling everyone about it, dreaming of how I’d see this glorious accomplishment in days, weeks possibly. Maybe a month or two for a commentated over version.

But years later I’ve seen nada. I’d still go to a showing if one came near me but at this point I want someone else to do it and let me see g’damnit.

That was a question in my first post. Where does this stand now? Was this ever made public? If so, and edited, what was edited? (Speeded up?) I thought I saw that it ultimately was public for a while, maybe I am making that up, or misread.

I'd love to see it personally. I say that because not because of any record validation purposes, but because my high run is embarrassingly low, and I would love to see a person get through so many racks and try to learn from how he does it. I don't lose sleep over it though, because I am new to this argument\point of contention, and I can learn from the many runs that are out there to view.

From a record perspective, I don't care. Those that are respected in the industry have seen, and are good with it. A phenomenal achievement in my books...

I doubt they'd do discs. That would mean setting up production and shipping. More likely to provide access to stream the video online. They'll definitely do that when money from private showings dries up.

There have been viewings of the run. John and maybe others involved go to a city, sell tickets for however much and then I think you have a dinner or something and watch the run. It was like 4 hours long, about 100 balls worth of the run was speeded up for times sake.

There are several trip reports of people’s experience viewing the run and it sounds pretty cool. There is commentary dubbed over in some parts, other parts you hear from John himself on what he was thinking etc etc.
