What is the Ideal Cue Ball Reference for Cut Shots?

Cue ball control is important when developing your game to full potential. This video shows how to create a reference for your cut shots to give you a "check and balance," using the diamonds for targets and feedback. Once you have a feel for this drill you'll start seeing over and over opportunities to use your new "weapon" to add consistency, and precision to your shotmaking and cueball control.

CJ, you move the tip "one tip" sideways to make the CB rebound one diamond farther along the near rail. My rule of thumb for moving the CB a diamond farther is to move the tip a distance equal to 1/3 of maximum side (about 3/16"). Is your "one tip" distance about the same as that?

I teach a system very similar with the same goal of creating a baseline for cue ball behavior. Seeing you use basically the same idea further validates the concept for me. I hope people are able to realize just how much information you just provided them!

CJ,
What happened to that beautiful BlackCrown you had with the green felt?
I still give lessons on it in Arlington Texas when I'm there. It's the same table Earl ran the 11 racks in a row to win the Million Dollar Challenge annuity.

CJ are you pivoting at the hips or all the way to your ankles for that adjustment?

Thanks
I pivot from the foundation (feet) up, so that the cue tip is always in front of my eyes. It's best to control the upper body by shifting the lower body using the hips for precise control.
