So What Does One Do When They Don't Have a Decent Local Mechanic...?

Extremely good point...lol

Ya, and I agree... Just trying to put some perspective on the relative cost.

So basically I should consider the first $400 of this venture as a "live in a bad table mechanic area" surcharge for quality work....lol
Just consider it the cost of doing business, because the service you're looking for is unavailable in your area.

I've been waiting on a warranty replacement transmission for my truck 6 weeks now, and Monday one was just shipped out from New Jersey....I live in Washington State😉 and its the LAST factory build transmission for my truck in the country. Ford has made the transmission obsolete for my 2003 E550 box truck, only built in 2003.

A wise man once said...:
first buyer has no one around to call to get the job done, so they're going to do it themselves.

Consider me inspired... ;)

Well I did a little measuring last night... Appears as though my corners are ~5.12" point to point, and have a facing angle of 145. The side pockets are 5.7" and are at 110 degrees. Definitely put together for family fun...lol.

The corner pocket facings have a taper to them. Quite a notable difference in thickness from point to throat, (thin/thick).

Seeing as I have to dismantle the rails regardless of how I decide to get them overhauled. I figured I'll pull the cloth from at least one and see how it was done.

I have a feeling that after all the numbers are totaled you would be ahead of the game to try to find a used table locally, relatively speaking, that is more to your liking.

Meh... although solid advice, where's the fun in that...?

I was looking at a replacement table originally, but there is some family heritage involved, although misguided.

O ye of little faith... ;)

If there's a will, there's a way...., and a potential fool to follow it. :sneaky:

Getting scary now, that is what the lawyers always say!

Crossposting now but I see the post about sintemental value being involved! Always an issue. Others in the family expect you to keep the family heirloom forever that they won't take!

I did some very rough measurements, and if I just change the pocket angle to 141 and keep the same throat numbers, it squeezes the pocket at the points down to only ~4.75, so there's more work there to get it down to 4.5".

Mark Gregory can rework them. I shipped my GC rails off to him and they came back perfect. I would not have let anyone local do that type of work.

I'm kind of in a similar place with my table but a different table would probably cost $1200+, or at least that's what I'd want to have in my pocket before I started shopping. Then I'd have to pay $450 to get it installed, and maybe get a few hundred for my current table. The thing is, the "new" will not have new cloth or 4.5" pockets so I've got to fix what I've got, probably to the tune of nearly $1000.
