Mosconi Cup 2021 Day 2 Updates

A cue ball doesn’t have to be absolutely frozen on the rail to be considered on the rail. You are correct, this ball was not frozen, but it was no more than 1/2 to 3/4 inches off the rail, which makes this shot 5X harder than if he’d been at least 3 to 4 inches off the rail.
I thought I was the only one that dogs fairly straight in shots like that from the rail from time to time...Good to hear I am not! :)

Nice cup thus far! Good to see some fight in the US team. Also, thought JJ has played pretty decent. I did not know his game recently, and was a little worried, but was wrong. (Thus far!)

Go USA

I can't believe that Chris is one of the top 5 players in America. I just refuse to believe this! Thinking of how large America is with all of the States I don't know he was picked in the Mosconi which only has 5 players. I can think of 2-3 guys who are far better in my opinion. I am not American but if you ignore all the antics I would say Mike Dechaine is still a better pick than Chris. Nothing against the guy personally but as Ive been watching his game I just can't wrap my head around that he's a top5 in the large country which includes 50 States!!

At the moment Sky is the player to watch for me plus he had a good haircutter

and he is also a Meucci Player. ;) I love this brand since 1985 :p

Pool is a game of execution. They pick players based on how they are performing "right now". Dechaine is off doing other things.

Skylar really shines at the Mosconi.
Yes he does. If his previous MVP awards weren't already it, his play this year could be the passing of the torch from SVB...at least in this format. Seems like every year someone will make a post bemoaning SVB's MC record and questioning whether or not he should even be on the team. Someone inevitably comes back with "you have to put the best 9 ball player in the US on the MC team". While I agree, I think Sky has shown over the last several Cups that he is our best MC cup player by a pretty wide margin. This is my opinion only. YMMV

I guess you didn't watch last year's MC 🙂 However, I do agree Sky is the best pressure player in team USA when he is prepared.

If I'm not mistaken and I could be wrong, but I believe Dechaine was banned from the team for unsavory comments toward teammate Oscar Dominguez and his father, Ernesto.

Yea, I watched that trainwreck...Strange year with the lockdowns and cancelled events and mullets. I am trying to un remember it though... 🤪

So I assume they will play 5 matches again today and if necessary 7 matches tomorrow? Tomorrow, other than the five singles matches and I assume a captain’s choice singles match, what would be the additional match? A doubles captain’s choice match or another singles captain’s choice match?
According to the Matchroom website, there are SIX matches today, alternating singles/doubles with the final match being a fans' choice doubles.

Day 3 sets up great for USA... If... and it's a big "if"... If Chris can find a way to steal the point from Jayson in the first match... The whole thing could bust wide open for USA...

I really hope Chris finds his way into Beast Mode. Anyone can do it if they’re in the right head space with the proper outside forces applying pressure. My beast mode is probably like 620 speed 🤣 but I bet reinhold* can really play when he’s there.

Chris and Tyler stole that point on day one. I’d swallow a fork sideways to see another steal here.

just a quick note- watching "doggin' it" poolcast and they got john schmitty on
been a fan of john, his game, how smart he is, and also how well he communicates
seeing him talking about mosconi got me thinking he'd be a great usa coach

Have you not see our politicians?! Lol

There's a selection process involved in gathering the team members... and you can't draft pool players who don't want to serve.

Handling the pressure well:
Skylar
Tyler
So so:
Shane
Chris
Jeremy
Well
Shaw
Alcaide
Filler
So so
Albin
Not good
Kaci
There are a couple minor tweaks needed to your list but the glaring error is that there should have been a "Sh!tting their pants all over the place" category, and that is where Chris should have been placed.
