Mosconi Cup 2021 Day 2 Updates

as a yurop fan i'm so far disappointed in kaci and ouschan. they are the two most recent rotation world champions but they don't play like champions. shaw, filler looking the strongest.

as a general pool fan i'm impressed by the americans and how they carry themselves. more supportive than earlier years. tyler styer misses the occasional shot, but pulls off some real supershots as well, and he really behaves and speaks like a true professional. thumbs up from me!

My thoughts on Day 2 of the Mosconi Cup. Tyler Styler is taking us higher and higher, and Sky Woodward for President. :giggle:

A cue ball doesn’t have to be absolutely frozen on the rail to be considered on the rail. You are correct, this ball was not frozen, but it was no more than 1/2 to 3/4 inches off the rail, which makes this shot 5X harder than if he’d been at least 3 to 4 inches off the rail.
Exactly
More player points

Kaciband Ouschan are nervous energy players...that will only compound if they are down the rest of the way. Ouschan is currently ranked #1 in WPA... interesting to see him getting the yipps.

He had lots of room to hit below the top of the CB, If you watch the overhead replay on the video you can see he hit the left side of the CB and he is also shooting down on the ball not a level cue.

When I saw the replay it reminded me of the many times I missed a ball because I decided to use a little inside English when shooting off or near a rail, rather than just sinching it. If I recall correctly Jeremy told him to just make it. It would have been almost impossible to not leave Jeremy a shot on the hanging six ball.

Exactly.
All he had to do is make the ball and they're out. Done.
We all have been there and done that.
I have a 9 ball match today.
We will probably play 5 sets, races to 7.
Betting one of us will be in that same situation today and blow it.
Focus!

kaci usually isn't negative energy, but something is in his head. i think the pockets have him spooked.

Partners pool is different pressure as well...hate to leave your partner bad shape.

He should have just rolled it in.

Today will be a war! Europe does not want to lose a MC when it was the overwhelming favorite going in. That would be hard for them to live down. Meanwhile USA has to be bolstered by the results so far. Now they know they can win! That belief is so important.

This is "moving" day and someone will be close to winning at the end of the day. Another 3-2 day by USA would put them in the driver's seat for the final day. Meanwhile 3-2 by Europe (or better) and they will have the edge on day four. 4-1 by either side will spell doom for the other side.

Today will be all about who performs better under pressure. On paper you would think the Euros have the edge, but it still has to be decided on the table, not on paper. This element of pressure that we really only see at the MC and maybe the World Cup is unlike any other pool tournaments. Bravo to Matchroom for creating such an interesting event, warts and all.

Under that kind of pressure in that situation, many players are just more comfortable stroking the ball a little firmer rather than just trying to cinch it. No question, at a slightly easier pace, that pocket may have accepted that ball, but it was not a bad stroke.

So I assume they will play 5 matches again today and if necessary 7 matches tomorrow? Tomorrow, other than the five singles matches and I assume a captain’s choice singles match, what would be the additional match? A doubles captain’s choice match or another singles captain’s choice match?
