An interesting follow shot

Hi Bob, what do you think would happen if the CB and OB are the same mass, but the OB is lets say .5mm smaller diameter? Would it have any tendency to bounce backwards on a stop shot?

Mike Massey plays 3-cushion. Semih Sayginer has some videos where he shoots on a pool table. And, of course, Venom spins his pool cue ball pretty well. Is this the sort of shot you mean?

You can drop your cue after making that shot! ;)

Do you have to do anything funny, like chalk the rail nose so the side spin will grab on that slippery cloth?

pj <- I won't tell
chgo
You have to either wait for brand new cloth or grease up the cue ball. l couldn't wait.;)

If the OB is either larger or smaller (but the same mass), the cue ball will tend to go forward because the impact is not directly towards the center of mass of the object ball. At half a mm, the effect would probably be smaller than the inelasticity of the balls, which also makes the cue ball go forward slightly.

I misphrased my question. I meant to say same mass, but CB .5mm smaller than the OB. However your answer covered both CB being smaller than OB, and CB being bigger than OB.

I think I have a CB that is the same mass but way smaller. Some $5 one I found new on Amazon. I'll have to find it in my junk pile and see how it plays. I also have a Rempe training ball that is mismatched quite a bit. I forget if that one is too light, or too small.

impressive, but is it a rational shot selection? touch the yellow and you screw up. i think most players would shoot three rail first into both balls
I assume you mean to shoot between the yellow and the cushion with left side spin to go long-short-long-balls. With that particular equipment though, the follow shot is the only shot to play. If the cue ball were changed to one that is regulation size, I'd try very thin off the rail side of yellow to go seven rails to meet the red on a time shot.

yes, that's the most obvious way. if you notice were he hits the yellow it's also where the red would have been.

Awesome action on the cueball.

This is definitely “1 Shot Every 10 Players Should Know!! : Part 7”

Light cue balls....I had this shot happen to me years ago.
..playing the blue in the side...high center ball...knowing it’s going to curve after the balk line...
...playing two rails to break the pack....turned into the yellow ball pocket

Too much stroke for your own good! 😋 From Virtual Pool it seems that the blue has to be back about a foot if you want to get that path:
