Sad news I guess, but at least they DHS did not put guy in jail, or prision.
People get turn around by DHS daily, for visa & passports that are not kosher.
Hopefully his good friend Jay might be able to fill us in on this, if it is indeed true.

US Customs Service is under DHS, like Border Patrol, ICE, and Coast Guard, etc.
Francisco Bustamante who also had a minor VISA infraction at the beginning of the pandemic has been stuck in the Philippines going on two years in a similar set of circumstances.
