Dennis Orcullo banned from USA for five years

Dennis was a guest in USA, his status had conditions attached, he apparently did something wrong, and got booted for five years.

I would think if an American was visiting the Philippines, and broke one of their rules, or laws the treatment would be same, fine, deportation, jail or prison depending on offense.

At least he can return after 5 years, he did not get life time ban.

No argument about the laws/rules. However, it does suck that a well known guy in his industry, who spends months at a time here, buying goods and services and contributing to our economy, as well as the entire pool profession, gets booted for 5 years. I am assuming he will be into his mid to late 40's?

I wonder if there is a system of warnings/strikes? It would be easier to understand the 5 year ban if he had prior infractions or warnings...
I know people that travel a lot and they know to the minute when their visa/papers are about to expire. Dennis isn't a little kid on a trip to Disneyland. He comes here for the express purpose of making $$. How could you snooze something this important?

Back to being a fisherman sleeping in abandoned cars....life is cruel
Especially when you don't pay attention. A good immigration lawyer should be able to help if it was only a one day overstay. Its the long overstays that get you in serious trouble.

Just read that Dennis was sent home by US customs and received a five year travel ban to the US.

It appears there are numerous foreign players including a number of Phillipino players having trouble getting back and forth in the past 5 years.

Two relatively well known veteran pro Phillipino players used to swing by and visit one of our Pinoy regulars here once or twice a year when their tournament travels had them passing through NC. They’ve not been able to get back to the US in the past 4-5 years, possibly for the same reasons as DO.

Very disappointing news, as Dennis has long been one of my favorite players to watch.

That said, if he didn't break the rules, I'm sure he can get it fixed by an attorney. If he did, and there were no extenuating circumstances, such as illness or bereavement, any trouble that comes his way is on him.

I would rather an exception be made here, but if Dennis has violated the terms of his being permitted in the United States, he has done this to himself, and you can bet your last dollar that he knew the exact terms of his visa. Customs laws concerning immigration and visas need to be enforced rigidly as doing so is a matter of national security.

I hope it turns out that Dennis didn't break the rules, but it seems unlikely at this point. Guess we'll see. Hoping for the best.

National security? In light of what's going on down south? In light of all the unvetted Afghan "refugees" flown in? Oh, come on, man! You were joking, right?

Definitely silly when one considers what's going on at our southern border. That said, I think the rules applied to Dennis should also apply there.

Dennis is simply paying the penalty for not following rules. May the guy should have hire someone to look after him in the USA.

Might do that in 5 years on his next trip to the USA.

Like the Judge use to say to nuckleheads in his courtroom in LA ignorance of law is no excuse.

If you drive out of your home state, you better know & obay the laws in States you are driving through. If you do not you might get a ticket from local cop. Again ignorance is no excuse.

It's a near-certainty that Jay was one of the very first to hear about it and is busily working full-time to connect with and secure appropriate helping individuals (lawyers, etc) full facts, and definitively: whatever resolution is humanly possible.

Jay would be very wise to not publicly state or publish anything about what he has going on behind the scenes on behalf of Dennis till long after this thread ends. It only takes one disgruntled, willful individual of any stripe or leanings to malevolently drop a dime and sabotage the efforts and best interests of both Jay and Dennis in delicate situations like this.

Hmm, I wonder what happened 4-5 years ago that might have led to these issues.

Possibly the same reason: overstays. Happens a lot. People snooze their leave date and don't realize the penalty involved. If covid was a factor and he gets a good immigrat. lawyer DO might be ok.

Laws apply to everyone, inless your connected like Clinton’s.

Sad news I guess, but at least they DHS did not put guy in jail, or prision.

People get turn around by DHS daily, for visa & passports that are not kosher.
Unless they are Azb laws.

Then you can beg for another chance when you're banned. More than once
