Ah I should have checked matchroom's rankings before posting -- looks like that was a typo in that graphic. On the site they're both listed as blue ribbon events now.Why is the World Pool Championship listed as a "Major" but the US Open is a "Blue Ribbon" event? According to this, blue ribbon is >300K prize fund, which both of those tournaments have. Is there some other difference? And does this mean that the US open is a bigger event than the World Pool Championship? Or is this just a typo?
Those damn Matchroom folks with money, brains, and a plan. If it weren't for them he'd be king of the pool world.Fixed that for ya![]()
Not a real surprise they are having nothing to do with CSI, Predator, or 10 Ball. That is their m.o. People way too fast to jump on the train. Not much for US ranking events. US Open and DCC are. International Open isn't.
And I'm surprised the CSI/Predator US Pro Billiard Series events aren't either. There's not much conflict on the calendar with Matchroom events. Only the Ohio event conflicts with the US Open which I'm thinking will hurt the Ohio event a ton.
There needs to be domestic US ranking events or else we are only going to get US players that are more interested in spending the majority of their time abroad. Seems like something is missing to me.
IMO Eurotour is been bad for pool mostly. They have been keeping price money going up in Europe. I am happy that Matchroom came in pool really. Now pros maybe can make living some day!i'm glad they didn't completely kill the eurotour. but the foot is on their neck, or emily's stiletto high heel is rather, to step up their game in turns of prize money. i don't see it happening.
Sounds like they are purposely squeezing out American promoters. I guess there would be arguments both for and against that. But sounds a bit scary to me.Not a real surprise they are having nothing to do with CSI, Predator, or 10 Ball. That is their m.o. People way too fast to jump on the train.
They have scheduled their events right on top of a number of events, many on the WPA's supposedly protected calendar. They now announce the WPA World Nine Ball now being April 5-9. That is right on top of all of the US Open events at Griff's following the WPA World 10 Ball. They announce the World Cup of Pool for June 13-18 which is right on top of the "WPA ranking" Predator Portugal Open. They scheduled their new European Open for Nov 15-20 right on top of the "WPA ranking" Predator Puerto Rico Open.
Of course who know if the WPA calendar is even accurate. Doesn't even have the above World 9 Ball listed on it.

Kinda does feel that way but they seem to be moving in the right direction for pool and especially the guys making a living at it.Sounds like they are purposely squeezing out American promoters. I guess there would be arguments both for and against that. But sounds a bit scary to me.
It’s not as if American pool hasn’t had a chance to get its act together. If Matchroom ends up permanently shifting the center of gravity to Europe (which is far from a sure thing) then US players and promoters have only themselves to blame.
i don't get the complaints.
You must be new around these parts
Maybe this will force more US players onto 9ft tables. If they want to compete at the world level they'll have to.i don't get the complaints. three big events are in the US, zero events are in asia. if anyone should complain it's the asian players.
Matchroom didn't have much of a choice given strict quarantine rules in China and Japan, the two most likely countries to host a qualifying event. 14 days of self quarantine in Japan and in China you have to quarantine for up to 4 weeks in some places, with extended time in expensive and uncomfortable government-regulated hotels/facilities.i don't get the complaints. three big events are in the US, zero events are in asia. if anyone should complain it's the asian players.
