Dr. Dave Chalk shootout😃

Well this seems to be a contested topic. I read thru the thread as it progressed and it seems like the taom users unanimously agree it's much cleaner chalk. I bought a brick of masters sky blue and was not planning on buying chalk again ever. I don't get blue hands or a bunch of dust on my rails etc. My cloth does however get gritty after a few sessions and masters definitely transfers a lot of chalk to the cue ball which can lead to chalk transfer on the other balls/cloth. I am constantly wiping the cue ball down. I decided to see how much cleaner this chalk really is. I really don't care about any performance difference other than keeping my balls/cloth cleaner on my table. The V10 is only available in green so I went the Taom Pyro in blue. Paid 28 bucks for this cube lol, so it better be clean. I will post my thoughts after it arrives and I get a few sessions in with it on freshly cleaned balls and cloth.

Cheers
Brent

Well, you have no control over what chalk your opponent uses so you have to deal with chalk marks on the cue ball that your opponent creates. And you can’t clean the cue ball during the game being played. And Taom chalk doesn’t prevent that from occurring. Further, he intends to use Master chalk that performed more than satisfactorily. So when only 1 player is using Taom, the chalk marks on the cue ball and influence on the shot is unavoidable. That’s just something that’s going to happen.
Theoretically it should reduce the chance of a skid by close to half, if one player is using chalk that doesn't mark up the cue ball.
My original statement is 100% worth considering, even though the chances of it happening are slim.

Two things I'm getting out of this thread:

1) Taom is cleaner than Masters.
2) People are suckers for marketing.

In summary: Buy what makes you feel better. No one should give 2 shits about what you buy. I know I don't.

It's your life, your money, and a free-market planet. If we all used the same products, what a boring world it would be.

What if you're playing sets or a tournament for a lot of $$ and the fact that your cue ball is cleaner keeps your game ball from skidding on you and costing the match? What was the chalk worth now?
what if your opponents eating fried chicken and gets ball in hand. i would rather wipe off the cue ball after each game

Here is another perspective...
I wont pay $30 for a tip.
Why would I pay $30 for one cube of chalk?

There are many here that use cheap Elkmasters or Triangles, and admonish others about using expensive layered tips. And how they are wasting their money. That's how I feel about chalk.

I make that statement out of ignorance (ignorance about Toam) but that's how I feel about it.

The Tiger Onyx is/was a good tip, but when they doubled the price overnight (M.A.P. pricing), I told them to take a flying friggin leap.

And we all know this "luxury" chalk is price fixed. There is no damn way they could possibly have that much money into making a cube of chalk. Even if it cost them $1 per cube for materials and manufacturing, and that's probably high, that represents a 3000% mark up. But if pool players pay for it, more power to them. We all have choices. I choose no.

I think the same way about Predator Chalk and Kamui chalk(tried the Kamui in the local I mentioned in a previous post). I have tried both and noticed absolutely no reason to buy into the hype.

If I get the chance to try Toam (or others), I will try it. But it would have to give blow jobs if I'm paying out THAT much. At least the Toam wont leave my penis blue!

I won't even try taom if I had the chance... Because I'm simply not paying that

i bought an onyx tip once and it really did not perform any better than an ultraskin tip.... also moori .... i think any benefit is imaginative and people think because something cost more it must be better which is not always the case.

I have the Pyro and the V10. The green V10 plays so clean you will not have a problem with green getting on your shaft, cue ball or your table. I like the pale green color. I am learning not to over chalk. Just a soft painting stroke of the tip is all that is needed. The v10 seems to cover better than the Pyro but both are so much better than Master or Triangle regarding cleanliness.

i never had chalked caked up on the floor .... really not sure how its possible
It is not uncommon to watch a player continuously drilling into the chalk the entire time he is looking at his shot. When said player does this you can actually see the chalk powder falling from his tip. It accumulates somewhere, if he is chalking over the table it lands on the table, if not it lands on the floor. I'm sure the person who mentioned chalk on the floor doesn't mean there is so much chalk dust on the floor that he has to shovel it up but it doesn't take much chalk dust to be able to feel it either. If you watch tournaments why do you think you see people slide their hand up the shaft after chalking, to remove the chalk dust that they can feel. To a lesser degree I also suffer from chalk dust. I chalk with my bridge hand and the chalk dust lands between my middle finger and ring finger. My fingers are not covered in chalk but you can definitely see the blue in the area between my 2 fingers. So I certainly do not think being able to feel chalk dust on the floor is out of the realm of possibilities.

how often has skidding been a problem
I notice a skid or two almost every time I play. This info from Dr. Dave's website is relevant:
"If you are 80% to pocket the typical shot, one skid in 200 shots is lost in the large randomness of the direction you send the object ball. (I think many players don’t even notice when a skid occurs.) For someone who might miss one shot per hour when they are playing well, skids are fearsome things."
I won't even try taom if I had the chance... Because I'm simply not paying that
Why does it seem to bother you that others don't mind the expense?

If Taom keeps the table, balls, floor, hands, etc. cleaner, it's worth the price to those that value that.

I play in a place that uses Master. I honestly cannot remember the last time i've had (or seen) a ball skid. Not saying it doesn't happen but i have not encountered one in YEARS. The only chalk i've bought to try out has been RussianMagic and BlueDiamond. Both are a little less dusty version of Master imo. As long as the 'hall keeps handing out the Master i'm gonna keep using it. If Taom, or any other hi-$$ chalk, trips ur trigger then go for it.

And nobody is going to force you to.

Simple economics lesson:
Taom owns a piece of chalk. I own $25.00.... Taom believes it to their advantage to give up that piece of chalk for $25.00 from me rather than keep that piece of chalk. I on the other hand think it to my advantage to give up my $25.00 for that piece of chalk from Taom rather than keep the $25.00. The deal is made and both parties happy.

Every purchase we make is like that. It's really a wonderful thing.

In this case, you clean the ball before every break and after every foul, so there are not more than 10-strikes on the CB between cleanings.

Well I would like to try the New Premium Toam Chalk to pass fair judgement.

But have supply of Sky Blue & Original Master, so I think I am good.

Two hours of play today with Master Green, hands were clean. Saw no Green on hands.
