Might we see a Gorst sweep of the DCC all-around?

I don't normally watch 9-ball but I might have to tune in this weekend to watch this unfold. No one has ever swept a major three event all-around tournament. A couple of players have won 2 of 3 -- including Mark Tadd in LA in I think 1992, who won Banks and 9-ball but lost in the One Pocket finals to Steve Cook. Since then I think Justin Hall has come close, and Alex and maybe Shane also at different major all around events.

But this year at DCC with Fedor looks like the best chance for that feat to be accomplished, for the first time in 60 years of all around events, featuring the greatest players over those 60 years!!! Yes, I will be following this, even though it is down to the 9-ball!!!

I realize Derby also hosts their Big Foot 10-ball tournament (which Gorst finished 2nd in) , but the Banks, One Pocket and 9-Ball are still the 3 anchor all around disciplines.

I think Gorst just got knocked out by Shane, but the DCC results page are not up to date, so I am not sure if that was his first or second loss. If it was his second, then it's 60 years and counting for a player to sweep all three events in a major all around.

He's out.

Trying to decipher the MOT leaderboard: http://results.derbycityclassic.com/LiveMatchesandResults/_asp/MOTReport.asp

It looks like if Shaw wins the 9-ball, which I assume will get him 120.0 points, he will finish at 260.0 points.

Gorst is currently listed at 251.0 points... but the 1-pocket results aren't complete, showing him tied for first at 110, not at 120. So that should give him 261.0, one point ahead of Shaw.

BUT it also lists Dominic Brikho as tied for 1st in the 1-pocket, which is incorrect, he shouldn't be there. Take him out, and Shaw moves up to T4 from T5, so that should give Shaw a few extra points, not sure exactly how many though, lets say it gives him 52.5 instead of 50.

So if Shaw wins the 9-ball and the 1-pocket results are corrected, that would be:

Shaw 262.5 (about, not sure the exact amount)
Gorst 261.0

I think Shaw still has a chance at MOT.

The DCC schedule page has Gorst waiting to play banks. Interesting.

Gorst's total seems to be correct at 261. (120+120+21)

Shaw currently is listed as:
90 Banks
55 One pocket
65 Nine ball
----
210 total preliminary.

He might move up to 120 for nine ball, which would give him 90+55+120 = 265.

IDK. I do know they announced it 2hrs ago that Gorst won MOT. I chk'd with a friend who's there and he and a couple Euro Mosconis guys said same thing. I don't think those have been correct since they started. Horrible system they use. Outdated is being kind.

Those individual numbers seem to match the results page. I think the TD needs to pray for a Shaw loss.

Yep. By my count, Shaw could win the MOT by a lot. They screwed up in the banks points (gave him and Tony the same amount for some reason), and then someone put in a Dominic in one pocket as tying Fedor. I think Jayson should have had ~155 going into 9-ball.

Numbers are hard. Really hard. You have to rememberize to carry the one's and crap like that. It's just really hard.

Did Shaw finish second at Banks? If so, he should have gotten 100, I believe.

Interesting, that is true that there should be a 2nd and 3rd place in the banks, not two guys tied for 2nd.

Who did Gorst play in the finals of the banks, Shaw or Chohan? That would be a 10 point shift either up or down. If it was Gorst-Chohan in the finals, that would mean Shaw should have 10 fewer points, in that case he would not still have a shot at MOT.

EDIT: Just looked it up, it was Shaw in the finals of the banks. Which means Shaw can still get to 275 points for MOT.

I think Johnny Archer may have swept Rocket City Open events.

What was it, 9-ball, 10-ball and 8-ball? Since Johnston City 1962, you'd have to include One Pocket imo. JC and Stardust and most of the early all-arounds included Straight Pool, 9-Ball and One Pocket. Then Banks started to replace Straight Pool. It would not make a very well rounded "all around" not to include One Pocket.

Scrolling through Archer's tournament winnings, I don't see anything that looks like an all around sweep of anything.

Lost in all this is the fact that in 2012 SVB had two firsts(1p, 9b) and a second(banks). IIRC that's the highest average finish of any DCC MOT winner. BIG TIME hats off to Mr. Gorst for an awesome display of pool.

I want to say that when Efren won the 9-ball and one pocket, Dave Matlock beat Efren in the finals of the banks. But, it’s been many many years, so I may have mixed up when Efren played Matlock.
