Mueller’s Sneaky Pete- are they as good as the old cues

I don't have any inside info but the sneaky is shown on the Mueller website under "Mueller Cues" and the info about them says "Made in the USA by Mueller's." They also have a hand-rubbed finish which to my knowledge Schmelkes do not typically have.

They're Schmelkes. They no longer do them in house. 'Hand rubbed' doesn't mean anything.

I guess it's history now. I bought one a few years ago and was shocked at how well it was made. The finish was very slippery and I would rub it down with wax paper, but I got used to it. Anyway, mine has a flat face 3/8th. pin. What surprised me was that when screwed together the grain in the butt and shaft lined up perfectly. Yeah you could just see that it was a two piece but turn it 360 degrees and the grain matched all the way around. The points are very sharp and pretty close to even. The Bocote is damn nice too.

I have eight sneakies of one type or another. This is the closest thing to the perfect SP of the old days. I always assumed Ryan made it because of the understated detail. No it's not for sale.

I just looked at Meullers, nice little SP bar cue player. Nice wood, big pin, juma ferrule, $140. Probably not as nice as when Ryan was making them but Schmelke makes a nice full splice. Matter of fact they supply many who buy Schmenke blanks and put there name on them and sell them for $600 up.

I have a few SP's with hand rubbed oil finish I did myself. I stripped old finish and used a 'Watco' finish. Came out real good. Feel nice in hand. If you are one who sweats or lives in humid area satin finish is real nice because you don't stick.

Have a nice weekend,
kat

Several forum member plays with Schmelke’s, and have said the product plays well.

Both shafts on mine warped in a little over a yr. They wouldn't do anyting about it. Said a yr was all they'd cover. My Chinese made Players sneaky was way better built. Fact.

Well this is good info that a Mueller SP is now a Schmelke, so get it direct and save.
The sneaky on Mueller's is $140
The same one at Billiards Warehouse sold as a Scmelke is $120
Direct from Schmelke is $127
That's for a 4 prong Bacote sneaky.

Ok so here is some more Mueller sneaky info. Coincidentally, I ordered a Mueller sneaky pete from Mueller's early this week and it came today. If it is in fact made by Schmelke, it is made differently from the typical Schmelke sneakies that I have owned or that are advertised on the Schmelke and Billiard Warehouse sites:
1. It does in fact have a finish that is matte and looks like a hand-rubbed finish, unlike the typical Schmelke.
2. It has a very thin, low-profile bumper, very different from the big fat typical Schmelke bumper.
3. It has a 3/8 x 10 pin, again unlike the typical Schmelke sneaky.
Also, it was shipped from Nebraska not Wisconsin.

Not saying the Mueller sneakies aren't made by Schmelke (and I think many/ most/ almost all sneakies of all types start with Schmelke blanks), but they are definitely different and I think a bit better than the typical Schmelke branded sneaky.

So there you go.

L&g, Howdy;

Think that Mueller's may be buying the components from Mueller's then having them
assembled by the two guys in the backroom. chuckle.

hi was thinking about getting one let me know how it hits and if you like it?

I am very pleased with it. Dark wood is very complex and the finish on the whole cue is matte. Points are pretty even and you can't feel the seams. Rolls straight together and apart and like a lot of sneakies the balance is good. Hit is very pleasing. It looks much more refined than the typical sneaky. I highly recommend it.

Bought an SP Pro from them many years ago, when Ryan was there. No collar, piloted 5/16-14, .840 joint. Bacote full splice. Still have it in the rack in my pool room with a collar-less pre cat 314 mated to it. Has hit a lot of balls. Plays real well.
Never used the shaft it came with.
Ryan might make you a sneaky now but, entirely justifiably, not for this price point. Would be a damn fine cue, though. You could count on that.
