US Open (9B), Oct 10-15, 2022, Atlantic City

This is wonderful. Logistics aside, there's a side of me that believes they could sell out a field of 1,024 if they really had to do so.

Given that the UK Open field also filled on the first day, Matchroom appears to have mastered the art of filling a huge field in a single day on both sides of the Atlantic.

At Matchroom, they are producing the best pro pool tour in decades, and player enthusiasm for participation in their events are at a level I've never seen in my 46 years around world class tournament pool.
It does look very promising.

I hope they have reserved some of the spots for qualifiers. That will both allow the tardy/careless to have a chance to play and could be a good promotion for the sponsoring rooms. I think they had qualifiers in the past.

Looking at last years field, they had some first round byes. I’m just wondering. If there were people wanting to play, why didn’t those spots get filled?

If they got that many it’d be a crazy tournament! I wonder what the payouts would look like on that?
I think to get 1024 they might have to reduce the entry to $300. That would still allow a $100k increase in prizes. I imagine Harrah's would be glad to chip in some more for all those additional room nights. There are a few problems associated with quadrupling the number of pool players in one location. Even with only 256 in 2021, things were a little frantic the first day, including refs/scorers not showing up for covid-related issues.

I think some players simply didn't show up or cancelled very late. That makes it hard or impossible to fill the spots because many players won't fly to Atlantic City on the chance a spot might open up. And the spot isn't actually open until the player doesn't show up for the match in the case of no-shows.
