2022 World Snooker Championship (Apr 16th - May 2nd)

It's a tie score in the fourth frame, 66-66. Snooker rules say referee has to spot the black ball.

Referee Olivier Marteel spots the black ball and flips a coin to see who shoots the spot shot. Ronnie wins the flip and tells Judd to shoot the spot shot.

Judd shoots and leaves Ronnie this. Ronnie fires at the ball and makes a 3-rail bank shot in the side pocket. Call the police. Ronnie stole that frame. Judd was in the lead and fumbled. Score is now Ronnie 3, Judd 1. Unbelievable! The crowd went nuts.

Yes. exactly! I have done that many times. You can see his breathing is heavy from close up after miss black. Fluke probably hit him with adrealine spike. Hands start shaking and brain is not working properly. He should do poolplayer move and go to his place and clean shaft with rag and collect himself :D
That’s exactly what it is. A Adrenalin spike-not a guilty conscience.

Best move is have the ref wipe the CB, clean or dirty. Go sit have a sip of water. Wipe down your cue. Walk slowly back to the table, survey the balls-even if it’s clear what’s next. Then pre-shot routine.

Easier said than done. That Adrenalin spike makes people go brain dead too. I really think there’s a link between that spike and just reacting quickly. I’ve done it many times in pool playing 1P when I’ve flucked a ball in, same playing snooker on a red.

I know better, but caught up in the spike I’ve shot the next shot way to fast and had disasters happen-many times.

A fumble by Judd allows Ronnie to take advantage of the frame and widen his lead, 4-1.

Ronnie is moving around the table like a tiger. Smooth as silk. Another century for the rocket. It's now 5-1.

The Rocket is relaxed and focused. It is wonderful to watch. Much different Ronnie than I've seen in the past few months. I wonder if it's because he's back with Laila again.

Judd fights back and is one shot away from a century but gets a bad roll, but it's enough to win the frame. It's now 5-2.

Not sure what happened, but Judd and Ronnie were both missing shots in the final frame of the session. After Ronnie misses horribly, he returns to his corner. The referee comes over to him, and they have words. Though they were whispering, I could hear Ronnie say, "What did you see? You saw nothing. What did you see?" Drama! I'd love to know what happened.

Judd runs out after that fiasco and wins the frame. It's the end of Session 1. Judd trailing 5-3, but he left the stage with a smile.

Stats of Session 1 of 4. They play again today in Session 2 at 2 p.m. Eastern.

Ronnie's pot success throughout the tourney has been off the charts

Trump did well to keep that session from getting out of hand, time for Trump to throw caution to the wind and get back to his super agressive play style

Recently Ronnie was warned about a "gesture" he made after he missed a shot. Maybe he is gesturing again. I think he is very unhappy with the way the ref has been respotting balls, and that doesn't help.

Reactions: JAM
Interviewer to Mark Williams regarding Judd Trump's prospects: "Do you think he can go on and win this title now, from what you've seen on the other side of the table?"

Mark Williams: "I've been asked some stupid questions in my time, but that's up there. Of course he can win it; there's no question."
Do you have any stats on stupid questions? Are there more in pool or more in snooker?

Snooker is not a game where you win by sinking a group of colors and then a "neutral" final ball, so 8 ball is a horrible analogy.

In one pocket every ball made (without fouling) counts as a point. That certainly sounds more reasonable for snooker than what they are doing now which is penalizing you for other balls made that you have no control over and that are having no effect on anything, meaning who cares if they fell.

But the closest game of all to snooker, both in the patterns and typical types of shots (always having to break up the clustered pack every rack), as well as how the scoring is done (by points per ball), is straight pool. Is it a foul in straight pool when you make your ball and go into the stack to break it up and something else goes in too? Nope, that would be dumb. It stays down and you get the point.

In snooker I can see an argument that it should instead be spotted up and no points awarded (or perhaps spotted and points awarded), but there is no logic to calling it a foul just as there wouldn't be in straight pool either, at least none that anybody has presented so far anyway. Sorry but "because it is an arbitrary rule that I'm used to and so I want it enforced for no good reason" is not logic, its just an arbitrary rule you want enforced for no good reason because that is what you are used to (and no it doesn't even increase the skill in the game, it actually does the opposite and introduces much more luck into the game as I already explained, and I am failing to see why having more of who wins decided by luck rather than skill is a good thing for snooker).
You flunked analogy class, didn’t ya?

exactly. he was the same against williams, cautious and negative shot selection, not playing his usual style. i hope his manager (brother) has told him to just play his game
