2022 World Snooker Championship (Apr 16th - May 2nd)

I think this is the first time I've really watched a match (besides the many Ronnie's 147's on youtube). The shots really are similar to both straight pool and one pocket. Even bank pool (the safeties).

It wasn't a pretty win for the Rocket. A lot of back-and-forths and misses, but a win is a win, and Ronnie widens his lead.

The one thing I notice about snooker players compared to pool players is how they each address the table before shooting. There's like a slight pause before they bend down to shoot. Some pool players, I think, shoot to fast and don't take the time to address the table. Jimmy Reid was a big proponent of addressing the table.

The race to 18 seems so long. I worry about 46-year-old Ronnie running out of steam. A 17-day-long tournament. Judd is 32 and may have youth and endurance on his side.

This is a nice little incentive right here --> Winner pockets $629,674 (500,000 pounds), and runner-up gets $261,469 (200,000 pounds).

A lot of folks used to complain about Johnny Archer picking lint off the table, yet snooker players do it all the time, and nobody utters a peep. :p

Its amazing how many fewer shots are available on a snooker table compared to a pool table. It seems any object ball within 2-3 balls of a cushion is a no-go. Those types of shots are the bread and butter of pool.

I also notice the players seem to favor the overcut side of the pocket, and to even brush the inside curve of the pocket. I guess they are bigger that way.

The momentum is back for World No. 1. Ronnie increases his lead with a century, 7-4.

Five more frames to go for this session today.

I'm sure it is sacrilege to say this, but I don't like the rounded pocket edges on a snooker table. A ball shot straight down the cushion should go in the pocket. Having those rounded edges takes away too much offense from the game.

he runs 4-5 miles a day, i don't think judd matches that. he hasn't always been living healthy but since drug rehab some years ago he's probably been the most fit guy on the tour.

Trump looks shaky as he misses a relatively routine black in frame 12. Ronnie cleans up again to go up 8-4.

What are the numbers next to the player's names in parentheses? I thought it was ranking, but the commentators keep saying Ronnie is world #1, but his number on the screen is 2.

It's the mid-session interval and Ronnie advances to 8. Judd has 4. Here's the stats and potting success so far.
