John Schmidt- live 14.1

Yea. He knew he didn’t have it before dude racked the balls. The table had those dots for the balls to sit in and he clearly racked them higher than the rack before and after. Home town ref! Lol.
But isn’t there a lot of leeway for racking the balls as long as the head balls base is touching the sticker?

That's the most pricless thing about that farce. They are using a fixed in place template to lock in the balls,(which is cool in my book). ...and probably had to rack so high as to prevent the balls from settling into the correct positions....lol

My opinion has shifted on this one. There's no way that the american front runner for the game would believe he could get away with cheating so blatantly on video. I'm thinking he took advantage of a situation to drum up drama and pull some extra attention to his "event". Only thing that holds water for me. It's either that, or John is the cheat some have claimed in the passed.

That's blatant cheating! This is why I prefer tables to have a rack outline, because not only can you move the rack forward to backward in order to cheat, you can also tilt the rack for more subtle effects, especially if the break ball is close to the rack.

John Schmidt just murdered his own credibility. I don't care about anything he does now.
Agreed! Balls were racked too high to allow a shot on the break ball! There were other racking violations as well- like when he moved a borderline CB to the kitchen prior to the rack guy even placing the rack down on the table.

I was watching the run live and I had a little air taken out of me when I saw what appeared to be a high rack. I can only hope it was an honest mistake.

The way they were racking, the triangle was only used to more quickly get the balls in position by "dragging" all the balls. The triangle was actually not used at all in the traditional racking sense. You could see that the balls weren't event touching the triangle (on any rack), like you would do with your fingers racking 9/10/14 to push the balls from the back to the front of the triangle. I've actually never seen anyone, except a complete banger, rack this way. But with the doughnuts, it made sense. The rack was just to move the balls all at once until they roughly fell into the doughnuts, then the rack was lifted, and any adjustments made by hand if any ball had not fallen into place.

Me personally, I have doughnuts on the table when I practice some shots, and there is occasion when I think the ball is on the doughnut, but its actually off of it, sitting on the cloth, but the ball is touching the edge of the doughnut. It does happen often enough where its not a complete fluke. And, the ball does seem to somehow "settle" in that spot when it happens.

I can see something like this happening in this case. When watching this particular rack, you can see the racker did everythighn he normally does. It looks like all the balls settled, and he inspected each one. If the spot wasn't on the video, no one would have noticed. I think the racker was focused on seeing that the balls were settled, and missed all the doughnuts by the same amount, and the balls ended up touching the edges of the doughnuts, instead of their centers. The racker was also on the end rail of the table, and very possibly did not see the spot at all.

I'll give the benefit of the doubt on this one that it was an honest mistake. At least I hope it was.

It was a bit convenient to be honest. (If the balls were in fact high racked) I saw the screen grabs, but are they photoshopped-I’m not sure. I hope he didn’t high rack to give him a break shot.

In the video, you can see John point at the spot while the balls are being racked. I'm not sure what is being said, but the balls don't move from that point.

I don't think it's unreasonable to assume John could see the balls were racked high when he was pointing at the spot.

I think they were all joking to move the spot. Can't hear well enough to know for sure.

I don`t know how you can defend this. He couldn't see his break ball so he moved the rack. There is no way, no way, he didn`t know the rack was fudged.

No one knows except him, and the racker. I agree it looks bad, but I’d like to give the benefit.

I'm going to play devil's advocate a little here. It almost looks to me like the first rack is below the spot with the second rack actually being on the spot.

How do you solve the issue of racking too high or too low?

Remove the spot.

it is obvious to any pool player when the rack is too high or too low.

and he was standing in a position to see it clearly and let it go, so his future attempts may be fine but all will be under suspicion.

Mosconi's table was an 8', did anybody measure those pockets? What was the size of the pockets on Cranfield's table? What size pockets are acceptable for a high run?
It has been reported here several times that the Brunswick Sport King InSpringfield, OH for Mosconi’s 526 was an oversized 8’, not 8’, and the pockets on all the Sport Kings in that room were under 5” and more like 4 3/4”.

There is a video link in this thread. The pictures are not photoshopped. It's exactly as it seems.
