IMO, for anyone under an A player that might only run one out of 20 racks, rack your own vs opponent rack makes zero difference in the outcome of the game, except for 2 scenarios:
1) In 9 ball, if the 9 goes in on the break. For this reason I like opponent rack, as I'm not an A player. And if rack your own, it should be 9 doesn't count in bottom 2 pockets in this scenerio. Anything beyond that, such as totol slug rack with the 1 ball a half inch from the next row, to a wired wing ball, etc, makes no difference. The players can't get out anyway.
2) In one pocket, even for C level players, the break should be rack your own. Its too easy if you don't know what you are doing (or you do, and do it on purpose for your opponent), to have the corner ball come out and kiss the CB if you don't rack them right. Also, that is limited knowledge, and you should not give away your racking knowledge to your opponent if he doesn't know that, by instructing him how to correct the rack if he's racking for you.
