Moori Tip Discussion

That's true. But you can't always believe everything. There are many ulterior motives.

For instance saying bad about somebody because of their politics. It happens, and it happens a lot these days to people on all different sides. So I take everything with a grain of salt.
When I see alot of bad reviews on the same guy, I don't buy from that seller,
That's just me though

hes got a reputation
just seach cue components here on azb

Well who would have thought there were FAUX TIPS.

I've heard this before, and mentioned ed again just today, but I really don't know what everybody's talking about. Someone just mentioned again they wish they could find a tip that played like the old Moori. What was so great about the Moori's made in the 1990s as compared to the one that made today?

I use a Moori Hard and absolutely love it! So what's the deal?

I had a few of the original Moori tips from a few decades ago. I don't remember anything better about them that you can get from a tip one would like today. Yes they were good for back then compared to many other tips, but now there are probably 10 tips you can buy that have the same quality and hit feel. I think the Searing tips and the Kamui Brown are similar to the old Mooris but that is of course just going by 25 yr old memories from how they hit hehe.

Joe, the owner of Cue Components, is pretty unique to put it gently. He enjoys stirring the poop. The truth is that he does or did a huge volume. Much of what you buy from other people passed through Joe's hands and he has many major cue builders that are or were happy customers. Joe has gotten out of much of his business now. There is a tremendous amount of illegal wood on the market and I strongly suspect much of Joe's was or more likely, was unknown even to him. Few realize the laws are just as strict concerning plants as animals. Joe got burned on ivory because he was one of the biggest if not the biggest ivory dealer in the US. They didn't prove any of his ivory was illegal, however they didn't return what they took and he paid a hefty fine to get it behind him. Once in the fed's sights I think he got uneasy about the wood he was holding too. Doubtful he knew the status of all of it.

When it comes to customer relations, Joe meets everybody halfway or more! When people get their butts in the air it is fun time for Joe. When I had a problem I approached Joe reasonably and he overcompensated me to a ridiculous degree.

Two of the suppliers with the finest reputations in the business took me over the hurdles pretty seriously. One rep was at least as big an asshole as Joe could possibly be. This was with me approaching the deal quite reasonably, it was all stock for my shelves. I ordered about a dozen different things and multiples of each thing. Of each thing I ordered, eight were wrong! I suspected a new or angry employee and called with the thought it was no big deal, it would be fixed. I must have been in a good humor, I found the clown on the other end of the phone funny although I kept that to myself. Still seeing the silly side of it I talked about it on the cue builders forum here. A handful of guys told me to talk to "_ _ _" a great guy, he would fix it. Probably not, he was the guy that had been such a jerk already!

Back to Joe, he tells me he has less than two percent unhappy customers. He likes to read about himself so it tickles him that many of that two percent or less are on AZB. Joe was my primary supplier and would be still if I worked with cues. There are some other good guys out there and we all see who the good guys are differently depending on our dealings with them. For me Joe was a good guy.

Absolutely nothing. It's like how people talk about revo now.
Same problems as every other layered tip.
Le pro, triangle, and elk master have always been better.
I couldn't disagree with you more and I do right now. I played with LePro's for several years and I think they absolutely suck. Constantly glazing over, mushrooming, replacing them 3 or four times a year because of the constant grooming you have to do.

And once you do find a good one , it plays it best near the end of its life, and then you got to change it again.

JUST SAY NO... TO LePRO! 🤣

Have one on my cue right now. Glazing and mushrooming? I don't do my own tips so maybe the guy who puts them on knows how to pick a good one?
Mine is at the half way point, 6-8 months old.
After the initial "pounding"(3weeks):I reshape it and never touch it again.
I have a triangle on my other shaft. They play similar. Triangle is a skosh harder.

I have a mix of Le Pro and Triangles on 6 shafts and I cant tell which is which and they need no grooming.
I play with a shaft ,put it away and then play again with it.
I don't obsess over tips.

I couldn't disagree with you more on this, the one good lepro, on a solid maple shaft , super super sweet clunk hard hit, doesn't get better for me lol

It exists here on the forum, in the cuemaker supplies pages. It is also well known that you can see his fraudulent listings on eBay if you look at the pictures

I guess I don’t care enough about the issue to go looking.

I feel that if you want me to do something, like delete a business reference in one of my posts, it’s incumbent on you to show me why I should do so.

I’ve bought a few tips from Joe without any issues.

Ok, you are welcome to make bad recommendations. Go to Lou for counterfeit tip references, got it.

Are these the G2's that everyone is referring to as counterfeit?

Denis Searing's Precision tips are supposed to be like the old Moori's. I tried one out. Great tip but I'm sticking with the Techno Duds. If you find a good Techno Dud nothing is even close IMO.
I agree with you on the Techno Duds and I just order few of those Precision tips to try out

After trying out most of the single layer tips layered when I was younger, I settled on Elk Masters until I took a 13 year hiatus. Upon restart I tried one of the old Moori's just because I didn't want to handle all the tip maintenance. I wasn't disappointed. They were excellent. Over time that excellence diminished - for me. Pretty sad really. Loved those things - in every way. Back to single-layereds again after running most of the gambit.

I remember back in the 90s, a guy traded me a big pin Leonard Bludworth (which Buddy Hall was using then) for a Schon I had. It had a brand new MOORI tip. Wow, I really loved it! I definitely felt like I had a ton more "feel" with a layered tip. And darn, it was expensive. I think I remember they were like $60 installed or something back then! I moved to FL and left my Bludworth in my car overnight during the hottest part of the summer, and it warped so badly. A guy STILL wanted it, and paid me $75, and tried to play through the warp, LOL. If he had waited an hour, he could have gotten it out of the trash for free.

I have never tried this, but for peace of mind, it may help with identifying the counterfeits.

Wonder if Joe has one...

On his website, he said to use a 10x magnifier. But Moori now uses a QR code to verify their tips. Assuming this isnt a false flag website! Good God... the things we have to go through these days!

Can not recall if I ever used a Morri, Kamui seem to be the rage now where I live, everyone is on Kamui Band Wagon. I like Tiger Tips, used their Hard Tip in past, have switched to Emerald, they seem to work.

When I am playing great I am playing great, when I am playing el crapo, it me playing crapo. Same Cue, Same Tip it the Indian that is failing.
