Jayson Shaw is going for a new personal best high run!!!

Well if Jason beat record he will still not make what a real pro athlete makes.
Are we being asked to believe that all achievements that don't lead to millions of dollars are of no import? If that is so, virtually every accomplishment in pool history is trivial, and if you feel that way, why do you post here? This is a forum in which most believe that special accomplishments in pool ARE A VERY BIG deal, whether they bring great riches or not.

My point is this accomplishment is like being a World Class Hula Hoop Champ. You got bragging rights, maybe a Ginnis Record, but nothing to pay the rent, put gas in car or fre family.

The Old joke is True today, what is difference between Pro Pool Player, and XL Papa John Pizza.

ANSWER IS: You can feel family with Pizza.

Fair enough, but AZB is a community in which excellence in pool is celebrated, and not one in which excellence is measured by its financial rewards.

These attempts fail to excite me very much at all and I enjoy 14.1 way more than any other pool game. In fact, I love straight pool. I'll add that I love baseball and also do not enjoy the home run derby contest each year at the All Star break. I enjoy watching 14.1 as much as actually playing the game, so, yes, I would watch Jason's attempts for the sheer enjoyment of the game itself and from a tutorial aspect.

Yes, I will give anyone the credit deserved that, in fact, a record is a record; and running the most balls in 14.1 within a verifiable environment is certainly something to be celebrated and congratulated.

MY LACK OF SHEER EXCITEMENT concerning these high run attempts is that I honestly feel, on the equipment being utilized to date by all of the parties involved, that there exists a rather large list of former professionals who could probably match any present or future 14.1 run; had they specifically focused on that one task- here is my list:

Greenleaf, Ponzi, Caras, Crane, Worst, Cranfield, Eufemia, Murphy, Martin, Mizerak, Sigel, Varner, Rempe, and, of course- Mosconi. This is just a short list, off the top of my head. There certainly could and maybe should be more additions.

Straight shooting alone will not outmatch 14.1 game knowledge, IMO. However, if someone tells me that my list had no chance of equalling what someone like Shaw or Schmidt can do today - I would ask- what 14.1 skills do modern players exhibit that are so far superior to anyone on my list?
I view these recent high run attempts for some minor entertainment value at best, I wish them the best and let them make as much money as possible in this endeavor! If this helps revive pool as a whole or even just 14.1, I am all for it- but for the knowledgeable fans out there- we should keep this all in perspective.

Watching Gorst beat the best in one pocket shows us all, with a little practice these boys play better fundamentally than most of yesteryears players and learn quick.

God only knows what Mosconi or Greenleaf or other champions might have done on a table such as we are using.

One of the things we're attempting to do is give present day players an opportunity to go for a record on equipment comparable to what those champions of yesteryear set their records on. Can we recreate everything perfectly, no. But it's an honest stab at it and a lot of fun to watch guys like Jayson, and SVB, and Earl gofeit.

Our event is a unique thing but if it's not your cup of tea, just move along. But for a lot of us it's a very cool "man vs mountain" challenge and the higher the run goes the more compelling the run gets. I know a lot of folks are looking forward to Jayson's second go as well as the attempts that will follow by other champions. It will be interesting to see where the ceiling is for a 14.1 high run : -)
