Same here. I think he like poking the bear, and probably doesn't take himself too seriously in real life. That's how he seems to me at least.

Knowing Jayson the way I do, you are 100% correct. He is nothing like that. He's down to earth, funny, and will do anything for you. He's a ball buster and has no problem getting his balls busted back. I guarantee him and Earl set that whole thing up with permission from MR.

Ye Shaw was an a-hole but it fits his general pool persona and he often mentions in interviews how he does little things to try and get in his opponents' heads....just anything to get them not 100% focused on pool. Picking on Earl is low-hanging fruit. Earl's head is like a backroads motel advertising vacancies: all are welcome, just say literally any 2 words and you're in.

Dunno why, but when Lely told the American fans to keep up their enthusiasm because their team is gonna need all the help they can get, that rubbed me the wrong way much more than Shaw's standard jabs.n I hope the Americans clobber em again today.

Don't be too hard on yourself. I agree with both of your sentiments – the arrogance and cruelness of Shaw, especially in regards to Earl, and that you probably don't want to be "that guy" on the forum.

In truth, Shaw's demeanor and barking have rubbed me the wrong way - really talented player, but...

I was admittedly a bit disconcerted recently to see, after his ‘superman’ performance of running 700+ (breaking a template rack & shooting into buckets), that when faced with an impossible leave in V.B., (on a triangle racked pro-cut Diamond), all he could think to do was to ‘punt’! So, he’s only human after all.

I know him pretty well and he doesn’t take himself too seriously. I didn’t see the thing that this thread is about and I don’t need to. It’s Mcup, it’s hype, nobody’s mad. They are all getting paid and working hard. They have put on one hell of a show. Everyone wins.

Does anyone seriously think that Shaw is a bigger primadonna or a-hole than Strickland? I happen to love watching Earl and would love to see him come alive and carry the US over the line in Vegas. But he deserves to have his face rubbed in it a thousand times over given the way he has behaved to other players and often, fans--for decades. Always good for a chuckle, Earl is, unless you think Sportsmanship is important to pool.

I am glad he lost on day one. Here's a set of horns for Jayson for the rest of the cup.

Half that stuff is likely puff to amp up the event. Boxer's do it all the time. It sells tickets, PPV, etc. Shaw and Earl will probably have dinner together afterwards.

The alternative is everyone dumps and has a hug fest. That’s worse than the purple 5.

I have no non-public info and think it likely the players are encouraged- if not directed- to insert incendiary dialog when discussing the comp.

Like the purple 5....all press is thought to be good press.

Matchroom has certainly told the referees to let the crowd be more rowdy and involved. In the past they were far more controlled. Now even the players are trying to keep the audience in check. Just wait till it goes back to the UK for some behavior that could become an issue.

If they are not careful they could be creating a safety issue for players and fans... Look what has happened at soccer events. Many countries no longer allow alcohol sales at soccer events. It's not just Qatar, but many other countries don't because of problems caused by rowdy drunken fans..

i was thinking that too, cheering and the occasional taunting is what makes the MC the MC, but one of those days a drunk idiot crowd member might throw something or trip a player going down the stairs. i know they have security guards, but you never know.
