$740,000 First Prize for World Heyball Championship in China, March 25, 2023

I watch C8B from time to time on YT, always amazed by the skill.

Someday I’d like to try out one of those Joy tables to confirm how difficult they really are. Probably won’t ever happen, I couldn’t find one close by if my life depended on it.

It’s tough watching an entire match because they can be lengthy, or often there’s no commentary or because it’s in Chinese(?) but commentary is another subject anyway.

Otherwise the production quality of these events is always high and professional.
Try it on a snooker table.

On one shot down the rail the ball came off very slightly and didn't drop. It's like they are using snooker pockets with pool balls.

There was an interesting rules issue at 1:20 remaining. Close hit when making the 8 on a kick.

Somewhat related, these two comedians who do tricks/bits about Chinese 8-ball are great and remind me of WC Fields.

I don't know their names (in pinyin or English), but they go by pool_hacks on Instagram.

Wanting to go to China takes a lot of motivation in the current Covid climate.

Its an attractive offer and China is a travel destination. The threat of external factors creating an unpleasant experience is high.
Hate to say it in print, but -- giving credit where credit is due -- this is an excellent, logical, economically-expressed post by our beloved villain JN.

-- And an extremely appropriate caution for high-Fargo US champs tempted by the dazzling, unprecedented strata of prize monies.

These guys are hilarious! And one them shoots STRAIGHT! ..... to boot.

Isn't it nice that there is another event in the world that is offering high payouts? I don't know why some pessimistic about this event. Not you, but the general tone of this thread has really gone downhill. Instead of celebrating a high payout, it seems there are those who think it sucks because it's boring or it's not U.S. dollars or it's not this or it's not that. Good grief, man! I'm sorry I started the thread.

As an aside, a Joy representative contacted me on Facebook and asked if I'd be interested in attending. I first had to explain that I am a railbird, not a player. But I thanked him and said I would not be able to.

Thank you Jam for trying, Not easy in this world, Joy and Banks have brought in the top players from all over the World, Each year in the last so many years. Even to qualify has been hard for players from all parts of the World... Guy

Very hard game.
Chinese players have snooker and 8 ball learned at school so, that is just another sport activity for the chinese youngsters, and that is why snooker got so big in there.
Three or four years ago "American pool" players where sanctioned and threatened to be banned from pool competitions if they went to China to play chinese 8 ball events... That is the reason many of them do not play the game and also the reason many of the ones who play the game do not play "American pool".
The last big event was 2019 world chinese 8 ball championship and A. Ouschan and E. Kaci reached the semis, both loosing to the dominant chinese players, wich means there is a realistic chance for any world pro to gonthere and win the event (British Garett Potts won the big event 2 or 3 times on a 256 players field).

this sounds weird. what governing body threatened to sanction am pool players? WPA?

it appears Chinese 9 ball is on the rise also
this might be the transition that bridges the gap better with non chinese audiences

i like it as i find 9 ball generally much easier to follow on tv

for 700k+ USD I really hope all the top guns give this one a crack

it would be nice to see the full payout table and entries/qualifying process

my money would be on Mark Selby to own this if he wants to commit fully

A member of azb posted that they called the Q-8 Joy a kiddy table, If that be the case then ask what SVB thinks about playing on a Q-8 table... Guy ,
Shane was there a for the world 7 joy masters, I think it was the 7th and he should be able to tell all...

It's interesting that Joy and Matchroom show the payouts in dollars. :)

Aside from the IPT, this is the largest payout in a pocket billiards game I have ever seen.
I think that 740k will be the largest payout for the champion in pool ever. Unfortunately not for pool as we know it.

The table concept is excellent for today's demand for the challenge.
Having a culture war staged in the venue of billiards while poisoning the world with fentanyl at will, coupled, with the past US/Dr. Fauci and the National Instituted of Health deliberate COVID 19 "gain of function" at Wuhan, China to control the masses through Big Pharma is beyond the priceless, yet to be determined.

It will be a showing for those internationals warm to the China intended romance to rule by its order.
OMG freaking racists with their conspiracy theories. Can't just let pool be pool?

They are. It's literally a 9 foot snooker table with regular sized pool balls. Very tough table.

That's hilarious. Some of the shots are legit tough though.

Is Gareth Potts still the king of Chinese 8 Ball?
There really isn't 1 dominant player. Yang Fan, Zhang Yubo, Chu Bingie, and Zhao Ruliang are the top dogs. There are a number of killers that are roughly college age also. Wu actually won one of these a couple years ago, and Melling made the finals once, but typically even super-straight shooting pool players don't shoot straight enough to hang with these guys

The Chinese are China is not playing pool, and you're entitled to your opinion, dangerous for sure, ignorance is.

Yes, the shorter guy can play for real. From what I can tell from his other videos, he owns a really nice pool room in China. He started doing the videos to promote the room. It looks like he has snooker,.3C, pool (diamond and GCs), and Chinese 8 ball tables. Most of their stuff is on TikTok.

750K for the winner? thats a huge payout - snooker WC doesnt even offer that. I find it very boring to watch though.

That's what happens when the planet sends all manufacturing to a single country, the money goes there also LOL

wish there was more info on this one
anybody know which pool players are trying to get in on this?

you would have to think Shaw would want a crack at this, Melling too

with 740k i would anticipate the return of Garreth Potts, maybe Selby, Appleton if he's healthy and a heap of uk 8 ball players

it seems as if qualifiers even have room and board covered
